    Doctors againsts ASL

It depends on what prism one is looking through... For one person, their cup is half full but for another it is half empty. I'm much happier being able to hear than not. But each to their own...

    Just your opinion

Being an implantee myself, I'm all for CIs period. Doesn't matter to me if adult or a child. My only stipulation is that the needs of the individual is considered to ensure the best outcome using a CI. In other words, provide the tools they need to be successful.

    If you had the choice?

Right now, I'm not considering getting a second implant. There are several reasons... 1) I'm doing great with my one CI. 2) I don't want to deal with the extra cost of keeping two sets of CIs. 3) I don't really see the benefit being THAT significant at this time.

    $70k for CIs!

Somebody mentioned a long while ago (Hear Again?!?) that there was an organization that helps some folks get a CI. Anybody remember...

    CI medic alert jewelry?

I wear a necklace. Less bothersome than a bracelet.

What do you use at your job?

Nothing special... I can use my CI extremely well which includes using the phone on a regular basis.

    Hearing pill !!!

There is a sucker born every minute... Do not believe everything you read. I use a very simple gauge whether something might be true or not (along with other evidence). Check if there is any "national" news about such a thing. Believe me, if there is any truth to it, it will have...

    CI medic alert jewelry?

Er...get your facts straight! You have a magnet on the coil-transmitter (in the center of it) and there is one on the flat roundish part that is implanted in one's head. They have to remove the magnet in one's head before they can even consider doing a MRI. Even then, they can't do a full...

    CI medic alert jewelry?

Not exactly true. They don't retain any magnetic force when such a force is applied. The problem is that they will resist such a force and that is the concern. There is a reason they need to remove the magnetic part before doing a MRI. That is obvious. But even after that, they will not...

    CI medic alert jewelry?

Er...not sure what you meant by your first statement but I gather you meant that the hospital wouldn't just do a MRI with some checking. But I was referring to how it could cause damage to the implantee. The magnetic field of a MRI is unbelievable. The electrode is metallic and will "move"...

Wow. The Cochlear forum has some uptight people

Nope. DD was using the reference to ASD as a way of expressing her view why some folks (as if they had ASD in their thinking processes) in getting a CI.

I'm getting an iPhone now that I have my CI

Not a bad idea but very expensive if it doesn't work for you. You might do a "test drive" with somebody else's or a demo model to make sure it would work for you. FYI - I'm very comfortable using phones and thus have a Motorola Razor. I prefer to use it to communicate by voice only. I...

    CI medic alert jewelry?

Er...you are kidding right? Of course it would effect you. Otherwise, worrying about wearing a med alert would be a moot point. The bit about being a black hole in "appearance" would describe it pretty well. The rest of the head not blocked by the CI would show up fine. Having a MRI while...

    CI medic alert jewelry?

As for the first, that is understandable. Most folks don't have that trouble and thus my interest in getting others to consider this option. If it doesn't work for you, it is what it is. Just realize the medical community is full of people who make mistakes just like anybody else. Getting a...

    CI medic alert jewelry?

"Shrugs" It's your life. You have too much trust that somebody is going to figure this out. I have been around the block far too long to believe it. FYI - If you are wearing a necklace, they are pretty much guaranteed to find that as they will be checking the heart and neck for a pulse and...

Parents of children who are implanted --

I'm with RD in making sure that my child would be safe at any school/institution of any type. The means never justify the ends. In other words, abuse but especially sexual abuse is significant and profound for any child. (I have personal experience when young [a minor matter in the scheme...

    CI medic alert jewelry?

Er...most people don't have a CI. Assuming that one's processor has been knocked off (very easy to do), it can be easily overlook by the medical staff. I wouldn't assume nor trust they will figure that out. Consequently, I have a necklace with a medical alert to make sure they see that...

Parents of children who are implanted --

I concur with RD. If I recall, there were some touting arguments (in other threads) that a young child shouldn't be forced to get a CI because the child was deaf not dying. Ergo, one can't have their cake and eat it too!
