    question for freedom users

Drew's coils have had to be replaced 3-4 times in just over 6 months (remember he has two CI's). The wires aren't exposed, but where I put my fingernail to help get the coil out of the BTE eventually peels back and needs to be replaced. Cochlear ships the replacements at warp speed, but it...

    LTHF - Thank you

We had a ridiculously easy time getting approved, I feel fortunate, but I know that many (probably most) others have a horrible experience getting approved. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

    LTHF - Thank you

Hi Angel, Drew is doing really great! He's growing fast, just about to walk and is doing well with his CI's also. Thanks for asking. Thanks for the welcome also - I didn't think anyone would notice that I've been gone.

    LTHF - Thank you

I thank you as well. We had an easy road to insurance approval for the simultaneous, bilateral cochlear implants, but many others would never win the battle without your help. Good luck to you and all families you help in 2008 and beyond.

My hubby's experience with CI users at Spa

Good for you. People from "other" groups never know what to do in this PC world, and it can definitely be uncomfortable. Most people don't mean to be offensive, and by using such terms are often accidentally offensive! For example, where I live it seems that "African-American" is preferred...

    which CI works the best?

I suggest you interview surgeons and their CI teams to see if they are a fit for you, and discover what brands the best teams you find use. From there you can learn more and decide which may be best for you.

Which Choices of Communication should Hearing parents use for their implanted child?

For example, if a child is receiving their implant at age 10, the oral approach is much less realistic compared to one recieving bilateral implants at 9 months. Similarly, if there are no oral deaf schools where the family can live, (or poor ones) the oral approach is not ideal. If the parents...

Which Choices of Communication should Hearing parents use for their implanted child?

It depends on the age at which the child was implanted, their support system, educational resources, and their abilities - among other things.

Deaf view on a CI kid... its a bummer..

I'm surprised you seem to feel that someone is suggesting Deaf parents should not have the right to decide against a CI. Maybe I missed a post, but I haven't seen anyone get angry over someone not being implanted.

    Is this true about CIs

Kids with CI can play football if their parents so choose. There is a boy in my community that plays on his 8th grade team. I specifically asked our surgeon about this because I played football myself and would like Drew to have that opportunity if he wants to play, and our surgeon's opinion...

I am glad plan surgeon my implant cochlear

Sorry soars, I was kidding. I see anti-CI'ers mention the "fact" that the CI is in the brain, and the "fact" that the person is left with a big hole in their skull after the surgery so that the coil (the part with the magnet on it that sticks to the head) can be "plugged in".

    Designing A Hearing Baby

I continuously see references to the fact that "not all benefit", but I rarely if ever see an explanation of why these people are not benefiting. Most of the time, the people who keep reminding us of these failures have never investigated anything about why the CI recipients have not...

I am glad plan surgeon my implant cochlear

But there's a big hole in your head to "plug" the coil in, right?

I don't know what you mean.

See this. It s a perfect example!

I didn't even get to the part that was supposed to "shock" me. I found the written english part of the post difficult to read, so I stopped.

A question to those who have CI....

I don't get it. There will always be people that don't accept others due to having a CI, having tattoos, having a certain skin color or just a certain "look" or socio-economic status. The clothes you wear, your accent, your zip code all "matter" to some outsiders. There is discrimination due...

    Bilateral Implant video

Did you ever get Drew's explanation of benefits and approval letter for simultaneous bilateral implants? I sent them to you but didn't hear back. We recently had someone you couldn't assist (b/c they were going with Nucleus) contact us and with our explanation of benefits convinced Anthem to...
