    Opinions on the SSDs

Smells like conspiracy (don't forget Intel's practices were and are controversial). But regardless, this is no longer the case, as AMD UEFI do allow this now. (Motherboard designers usually like to see that we get the lion's shares of that nifty optimizations.) Could be wrong, but hey.

    Opinions on the SSDs

Hmm. That's also a good point. Some potentially obsolete SandForce SSD controllers (which regrettably still finds its way into the newer SSDs) have some defects in either the DMA controller or there are few nastier variety firmware bugs that make our data magically disappear (I remember Intel...

    Opinions on the SSDs

Hmm. Grummer, good point. DVD-RAM (and BD-RE [Blu-ray Disc Rewritable] is also a DVD-RAM only larger in capacity size, and I have the BD-RE burner) can only do much, and that's not counting in the error correction (pretty important) but again the SSD have at most 1 - 4 GB in unformatted data...

    Opinions on the SSDs

I was thinking about using the SSD, there are some good things; no moving parts (except for the MEMS oscillator and the fan), lower latency between NAND flash and the SoC (think hard drive arm seek time - 100x faster than the hard drive's seek times - seek time here is within 5 - 20...

M-Disc is a DVD made out of stone that lasts 1,000 years

Interesting. I wanted to try the M-discs since, well, I oftentime abuse some discs (Don't ask me... XP)... M-disc would be especially handy for the restore discs (like for Windows 7 clean reinstall) as M-disc is supposed to withstand even the brutal abuses (such as putting it in extremely hot...

    Router replacement

Wirelessly posted DUDE. That's one fast WiFi standard. I took a read on the Wikipedia, saying that it can transfer at closely the same speed as SATA III 6.0 Gb/s (600 megabytes per seconds). And, the manufacturers can choose to release the 802.11ac Ethernet chipset and the entire hardware...

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted Do it. This thread have turned to sh*t, so I would rather have it locked before it gets worse.

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted Now, excuse me. Jiro, you're starting making such a smartass comments toward me. I am not in the position to make an assumption. Truth hurts a lot sometimes. I am done here.

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted To answer the original question, a rail is a solid connection inside the PSU, with its own diode and line-capacitor (a newer PSU can have as many as six 12V rails). And I would recommend 15 Amps minimum for 12V rail for the video card. EDIT - Oops, I was using the phone to...

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted No offense, Mr. Jiro, but you may want to read this entire thread from page 1 to 11 and you will understand why.

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted Hey, rhr - your vocabulary have proven otherwise: you're not a goddamn IT technican. Get over it. And yes, I play video game too. And, you're guilty as proven, for spreading false information. I am getting strict about how you salt your words.

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted Oh, very cute, rhr. You obviously underestimate me. I do "Electrical Engineering" for so many years, so I do know what I am talking about, so start buying the damn books from Radio Shack. I do not appreciate your tone on this forums - telling me that I am wrong. I am never...

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted Aye, Sir! I own a Gigabyte motherboard, and it's like The Highlander described, and I tried a different firmware, Coreboot (formerly LinuxBIOS) on it, it worked.

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted Interesting. I didn't know that 2 + 2 equals 5. Guess I learn something new every day.

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted rhr, YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND. Period. The 30/60 Amps plate you spoke about is THE WASHER / STOVE OUTLET!!! Can't you read? The mains is usually rated for 100 - 200 Amps, and you can just swap the circuit breaker with ratings 5 amps higher than originally rated. OH MY GOD, I am...

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted Bravo! Well said, Foxrac. I had to also explain few incredibly simple things to few of both the deaf and the hearing peoples, they just stiffen up like an ironing board after seeing or hearing what I gotta tell them. And I bet what rhr is COMPLETELY UNAWARE of, the appliance...

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted AHA! I forgot to add one more thing. The Active PFC PSU (Gold Certified or better) do support auto-throttle. In some rather expensive PSU, the mains switching transistor driving the main load transformer is also linked to a microcontroller (be it your favorite Microchip...

Video Card & PSU "12V Rails" mean?

Wirelessly posted Zeroblazer21's right. I have torn apart few tossed-out PC PSUs in the past. Those are switchmode power supply. For 1kW, only 12 Amps is drawn, largely due to the resistance and reactance of both the transformer and MOSFET (or IGBT), which at 45 to 255 kilohertzs, determines...

NEED a power supply with a pfc

Yea, that's true, but even so, the powerful ATX PSU still consume nearly the same power as room heater (6 to 12 Amps, depending on the wattage of DC rails), and I decided to set Cool 'n' Quiet so that way it can go from 10 Amps on 12V CPU plug to 3 Amps when idling. It's not so much when surfing...

NEED a power supply with a pfc

Well, that's understandable that this thread went cold... I think I could be okay with Dell PSU as long as I clean it regularly as the PSU held up to the fan I bought (Delta PFB1212UHE-F00 120mm 252 CFM fan - luckily for most/some of you peoples, the noises aren't the concerns but I use CI, and...
