    Decision is Made

In my immediate family, meaning my husband, myself and my daughters, all of us (my princesses are learning so quickly). My husband is hearing and is not fluent, but he is getting better. As for my parents and my siblings, all of them do as well. They learned so they could communicate with me at...

    Decision is Made

that is wonderful to know!! Why do they give you a second set of the processors? Just in case something fails? Does that also mean that I would get two of the Zyphers?

    Decision is Made

Thank you for that! and Yes, I do sign with both of my girls, my King and I decided before we were wed that we would sign with our children, though at that time we were expecting to have all hearing children. I am deaf and was given ASL as a child, after my parents found out about my deafness...

    Decision is Made

Ok, I did not think that they were able to be under water... I'm not actually worried about miss Ally having to go under water and hear under water, but I don't want them to get damaged if she gets wet, or if her sister decideds to be rambunctious and push her in the pool. Its great to meet...

I thought that Cochlear was only safe in still water... how have her processors faired? Is she using the N5's now? Has she had any issues with them?

    Decision is Made

That is a good point... I have read Sara's blog... I have seen many blogs from MedEl and AB, but almost none from Cochlear... but that might be me. I am not sure what all comes with the CI, that is something I have not asked, but I will need to ask the surgeon, or the Audiologist. The thing that...

    Decision is Made

Ok, so I have another appointment with the CI center on the 25th, this time with the actual surgeon who is going to be implanting both me and my daughter when it comes time to it. My princess has another appointment mid June, shortly after she has a CT scan and an MRI. This second appointment...

    tomorrow is the big day!

So yesterday was such a long day, for my family. We left home at 7 am, so we could be there for Ally's 8 am appointment, we needed to be there early to fill out paperwork. It took us a while to find the hospital, find a place to park, then find the office. The audiologist we met with was very...

    tomorrow is the big day!

my reasons for wanting a CI for myself are simple. I would like to be able to access the hearing world more than I currently am able to with my hearing aids. When I was pregnant with my girls, my hearing dropped drastically, and I am looking to be able to get back that level of hearing (I was...

    tomorrow is the big day!

tomorrow is the big day. My daughter and I both go for our CI evaluations! I am so scared, and yet so very excited! I really hope that we are both candidates, and that insurance approves us both. I am a little hesitant about the evaluation process, I'm not sure what all it entails. When we set...

How do you view yourself as a deaf?

I feel like a wonderful mother, wife, daughter and sister. I feel that I am a proud Deaf person, just as I feel I am a proud follower of my Lord and Savior. I feel that ASL has opened many doors for me, and lead me into a wonderful life, where I can fully understand. But I also feel that my...

Hearing loss and getting/keeping a job.

I agree. I think that the issue of your hearing needs to be addressed. I think you should speak with your manager, and inform them of your hearing loss. I would also document it and any conversation that follows, just in case they do try to fire you as a result. Though I have never had a job...

Does anyone actually use the magnets for HA batteries?

I've used the battery magnet once, when my lovely husband put the battery in the wrong way, it wasn't strong enough to get the battery out, but enough for me to get another tool in there to get the battery out. now for my daughters aids, I often use the other tools with that kit (I think I got...

WTF Hearing aids are worth more than their weight in than gold!

Mine are not working for me right now... I can't really understand people anymore, so I am looking into a CI. My daughter has her CI appt soon, though I know they will tell us we need to go through a longer trial with the aids, I just think it will be good to know if she is even a candidate...

WTF Hearing aids are worth more than their weight in than gold!

My daughters aids were suppose to cost us almost $7,000, but we just had to pay about $1000 after insurance paid the rest. She gets free molds right now. It is very expensive, but if it helps you hear (and that is something that you want) then it is worth the cost.

    Denied extra time for exams

First of all, no audiologist would tell you that you re 53% deaf, they would tell you in decibels. also, because it is written, I do not see why you would need the extra time on an exam, unless you had other issues going on as well. I have had times, when I wasn't on grade level for my English...
