    Still embarrassed about my CI...

That is great advice! I was super excited to get my hearing back and i am still extremely great full for the CI. That 3 month roller coaster of emotion from the time you get the implant till the time you turn it on is pretty intense. Lots of emotions, like a Pixar movie or something. :)...

Ok thanks. I use "Cochlear" brand. I guess i'll have to ask my case workers.

Do you guys think if i mentioned all this to the people who handle my case at the hospital they would understand and be able to help get the off the ear hardware?

    Still embarrassed about my CI...

I think i'll look into the off the ear hookup, if i can get it covered by insurance. Seems like it'd be more comfortable, convenient and safer anyways. Mine is always falling off my ear. I've seen the colored ones, they look pretty good on the kids. Never seen them on adults. Maybe i'll...

    Cochlear device and exhaustion??

Does that go away? Is it from the operation, or is it from the CI device somehow?

    Still embarrassed about my CI...

I've had my CI for 5 years, but i am still extremely self conscious about the way it looks. I am a very small person and it seems like it takes up the whole side of my head. It makes my ear stick way out like Alfred E Newman, from the "MAD" comics. ;) I am very grateful to have the CI but i...

    Cochlear device and exhaustion??

Hmm, the audiologist told me to keep it max volume and moderate sensitivity. What blend of the two do you use? I've had my CI for 5 years and i still can't seem to get a consistently good sounding program. Its like constantly changing, except in quiet environments. Also I can upgrade...

    Cochlear device and exhaustion??

Wow, what everyone wrote is exactly what i've been experiencing. I've had my CI for 5 years. Its been mapped a lot. I guess its just something i'll have to prepare for throughout the day. I'm relieved to hear people go through the same thing. I thought there was something wrong and i...

    Cochlear device and exhaustion??

I have only one, on my left as well. Do you know why it makes us tired? Is this something i need to let my employers know so that i can work around it?

    Cochlear device and exhaustion??

Does anyone else get really tired as the day goes on, when they use their CI? I am finding that if i have to keep my cochlear device on and forced to "hear" all day without a break, I get extremely tired and wiped out. Its like i'm running a marathon or something. I have to concentrate...

    Sound activated light?

Please don't say get a DJ strobe light. Those are too expensive ($50+). I'm looking for either just the electronics circuit board which activates with sound, or a cheap sound activated strobe light. Any recommendations? Cheap = $20

    really need some help

The way i did it when i was younger, 16 then, 37 now, was to apply for SSI. Once you have SSI medicaid is easy to get. When i applied at 16 i was denied. I had to appeal the denial and take it to court with my lawyer (state appointed). The lawyers explained that it is standard practice to...

    Really struggling with feeling useless

I dont' know if this has been mentioned but have you ever thought of getting a cochlear implant? It opens up more avenues for jobs. One of my audiologists actually has 2 cochlear implants. If i didn't have other health problems i would definately get into that field. If that's not...

    Bed shaker alarm clock suggestions?

I doubt it. :) The mattress i have is pretty thick. I guess that could be the reason it doesn't work well. A slingshot alarm clock would be great! Maybe it can sling me into a pot of coffee . :)
