Why did God pick people to be deaf?

DD - first of all, I didn't and don't say a disability is "bad" - it is simply something that adds to the challenge of living. Not one of us is born perfect in body. Some disabilities pose more of a challenge than others. If I think of hearing as one of many possibile abilities humans are...

    Question about Exodus 4:11

I challenge you to find me a single verse added or omitted from the NIV as compared to the KJV. Even the KJV uses italicized words to indicate where the translators added words which did not appear in the manuscripts they were working from.

Using religious teachings to justify intolerance & discrimination

Liza - this is really wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing it.

    Question about Exodus 4:11

THERE IS ONLY ONE GOOD TRANSLATION OF THE BIBLE - and that translation is the one that compels you to pick it up, understand what you are reading, and gain new insights, be moved emotionally, and develop a deeper relationship with God. I like the poetry of the KJV, clarity of New...

Why did God pick people to be deaf?

Why do you think a direct role equals omnipotence? God plays a direct role in my life, but he's not a puppet-master.

    Circumcision..

When I talk about God I usually say "He" out of habit, but I prefer to think of God as being beyond simple gender distinctions. In some religious traditions, gods are male, female, animal. Not sure who decided the "God of Abraham" was specifically male. I don't personally agree.

    Question about Exodus 4:11

Heath, why would you think that? You think the men who did the work for King James were without bias? And that those who translate now are somehow untrustworthy? What if you don't read English? There's no Bible a non-English reader can trust? (Let alone those who read English but find the...

Why did God pick people to be deaf?

I personally don't believe in pre-determination or that God assigns disabilities to people. No one is born "perfect" and we become less perfect as life goes on - but I just can't fathom a God who would deliberately give a person a disability of any sort.

Stop leaving voice msgs on my sidekick.

Maybe you can have a speaking friend leave the outgoing message that says "Hey - don't leave me a voice mail dumba**. I'm deaf. Get it?"

    I don't ask much

Good luck. If you can, see if your State DMV has the test questions on-line to practice with (Calif does).

Is there any way at all to trace relay calls?

Technically - yes - it probably can be traced. Whether the relay company will cooperate, who knows? Talk to your local Police Department. They probably have a better idea of what would be required to trace a call. If you are getting prank or harassing relay calls, the Police are the best...

    anybody feel depressed today?

It sounds silly, but the best thing I learned to help when feeling sad or depressed is to do something happy. It's hard to stay sad when you are petting a bunch of puppies and kittens at the pet store, or working in the garden, or whatever it is that brings you joy. Dancing? Playing with...

    Circumcision..

At this point, there just doesn't seem to me to be any compelling medical evidence to support circumcision. The cleanliness issue is just silly to me. As a woman I was taught how to keep myself clean - I find it a bit insulting to men to suggest they cannot also be taught simple hygenic...

    Circumcision..

Well - the belief, scripturally speaking, is that God asked for this as the sign of the covenant between him and his people - in many senses, the way a wedding ring is exchanged as a sign of the covenant between two spouses. If you think about it, the penis can be seen as a vessel of the human...

    Culture and Communication Survey

No - HOH only. Some No Not exactly - let's say I am a freindly neighbor only. Not Deaness itself per-se, but the use of an alternate language creates a culture in much the same way that any language does. By a strict definition, Deafness itself is a disability, but only in the sense...

Vote for Creationism or Evolutionism or Both for Schools to Teach?

For myself, I am indifferent as to the validity of an actual burning bush - it's really not the important thing here. What's important is God's call to Moses, and the message he conveyed which has changed the lives of countless millions of people. I know myself that God's call is sometimes...

    Anyone Sell Confidence or Guts?

One of my biggest regrets of High School is not communicating more directly with people. I watched Lauren go through it too when she was in High School. You don't have to answer these questions here - just answer them truthfully for yourself: What are you afraid of? What do you expect if...

Yes - it's entirely possible. I am not sure why. She's quite accepting of GLBT people, but for some reason, she and I just "don't go there".

    Gospel of Judas

It is exactly this kind of statement by you that makes me think people still malign Judas and it never occurs to them that Judas had a specific job to do, and he was appointed by God to do it. His reputation should have always been as a servant who did what we might see as "unthinkable", but...

    Gospel of Judas

I don't know about you, but I don't know a single adult of normal faculties and reasonable intelligence who would behave this way, and using it as an example is ludicrous, and does not prove your point. It is an example of an argumental fallacy. Indeed, there are Christians, and members of...
