Some members should do the same, don't judge others until you have actually met them in person. See you around.

Start with spoken language or ASL?

A fictional culture that is more of an culture than the deaf culture... Ironic, eh?

Start with spoken language or ASL?

I was exposed to the spoken language first and managed to come out fine. My reading level was a few grades AHEAD of my hearing counterparts. However its just me and I was gifted, identified as a child prodigy. I would have LOST the opportunities I had if I grew up in an ASL-dominated...

    Show off Your Computer Desk!

Sorry I disagree, I have a MacMini and am running CS2 without any problem. I also use Dreamweaver, video editing, and several other heavy programs. It all depends on how much memory you put in it.

Start with spoken language or ASL?

I had different experience in mainstreamed programs, I was not isolated and pretty well-known in school. I was aggressive and got myself involved in everything I could.

Start with spoken language or ASL?

Sounds like you have a lot of build up anger to what happened to you years ago. I attended mainstreamed programs and did not have any problems. I ended up in honor classes just fine. I will never be fluent in ASL because the window of opportunity for native language acquisition is...

Start with spoken language or ASL?

What have I said that is "so true?" I think you just totally missed my point. I have seen deaf children from deaf families have horrible literacy skills.

Start with spoken language or ASL?

I never said ASL was broken English, I just view it that way. I have seen children with strong foundation in ASL and end up being horrible in English. It is not a matter of which language is better for the children, its the matter of the children' ability to grasp materials. It also falls...

    The lowest form of language

Strength in ASL will not get you far, strength in English will take you far. Have you seen how native ASL speakers write, how do you think native English speakers think when they see what the ASL speaker write? "ASL has culture" Culture requires many components that the deaf culture does not...

Start with spoken language or ASL?

If you want to truly learn three languages, take Spanish, French, German, and the list goes on. ASL/SEE/English doesn't qualify as a "three language education."

Start with spoken language or ASL?

I have to disagree with this, but do respect your opinion. Only in return I hope you can respect mine. ESL is geared for foreign speaking people and encourage them to immerse into the American culture. However it is not for Deaf students, they would benefit better from a Bi-Bi approach...
