    My story---

Hello, I am hearing and finishing my associates in ASL this semester in college, hopefully going onto Gallaudet after for my bachelors. That must be a pretty big life adjustment you're going through. How much is your hearing impaired with the loss on one side alone? I do know an older woman...

    Hello with a problem

Hello! I'm sorry you've been struggling with this. I've had my share of doctor confusion too, with quite delayed speach and then randomly starting to talk in full sentences, also it took them forever to diagnose my mixed connective tissue disease. Best of luck I hope you get some answers, I'd...

This last part kind of made me laugh, the closed captionings of movies always say things like "upbeat symphony in back ground" or some other musical description, I get that being kinda helpful/cool to know if you weren't born completely deaf but if you were what does saying a upbeatt orchestra...

    Would this offend you?

No, it's not like it is an official meeting or anything. Normally if another hearing person is there we don't talk orally to eachother but sign to eachother and the rest of the group so as not to be disinclusive or rude, we're really just hanging out. We don't have a set of rules or anything...

    Would this offend you?

Haha true story but we're all young like 25-18 so most want to go out, we often go the beach first, there's fireworks there all through September, ironically I put ear plugs in as the loud cracking popping noise makes me a little nervous as it sounds like gun shots and remind me of them. There's...

    Would this offend you?

That's what I normally do and haven't ever had any problems, I was just really embarassed because of the friend that offered to order for them all because the group's reaction was quite negative and honestly at the time I preferred not to say anything outloud at all haha  And yes there have...

Hello, hearing 21y/o woman learning ASL interpretation

dogmom, I'm not sure how I feel about Fibro to be honest a lot of doctors have the opinion that their pain is pschologically related. I think with MCTD there's more awareness and tests, for example high antinuclear antibodies indicate lupus or MCTD, the symptoms dictate which. If the organs are...

    Would this offend you?

Yes, everyone was ordering in groups, some had written it down and others used their cell phones. I placed my order with the first two infront of me in the same manner that they did. I think the deaf friends felt somewhat belittled by her offer as Gemini said it did somewhat imply that she was...

    Would this offend you?

I was recently at a deaf coffee meet up. I am hearing and was there with 5 deaf friends and one other hearing. We are both students. She is learning ASL because her little brother is 3 deaf and learning some himself. I am learning with the goal of getting my bachelors in ASL interpretation. We...

Hello, hearing 21y/o woman learning ASL interpretation

Yes, it is similar to lupus.. it's kind of it's little bitty baby sister. It's not nearly as severe but is also in the noncontagious autoimmune disease family. :) Arthritis is related to both illnesses as well. :(

Hello, hearing 21y/o woman learning ASL interpretation

Thanks again for the welcome :) I take tramadol/ultram (mild painkiller) and flexaril (muscle relaxer). They make most days normal so long as I don't severely over exerte myself. Swimming definitely does help! I don't think MS and MCTD are related except for the muscle pains I assume those...

Hello, hearing 21y/o woman learning ASL interpretation

Thanks! And it's a physical Health issue. Pain is physically more sensitive for me, say for example walking quickly on a treadmill for thirty minutes makes my joints and muscles hurt pretty badly where as most people don't even get sore in that amount of time. When I go to theme/amusement parks...

Hello, hearing 21y/o woman learning ASL interpretation

Hello all, My names Rae. I'm 21 years old (until September 20th!). I was born with a developmental delay causing my speach to be very delayed, at first the doctors thought I was mentally challenged, autistic or even hard of hearing. One day I suddenly and surprisingly caught up and started...
