I don't claim to be perfect, and I don't think there is a parent out there that thinks they are perfect. Like Cheri said, how do we really know what is best for our children? We don't, but as parents WE have the right to make those decisions... and more importantly, need to make those decisions...

I am sorry you had to go through that too. I want to believe that most parents are not like that. All the parents I have come across in the last few months are nothing like that. Please don't assume all hearing parents feel the same way your mothers did about you. I want to speak for all the...

You are very right! Love is the most important thing you can give your children.

I am so sorry that you and your sister had to go through that. No child should ever have to feel that way, especially because of a parent's attitude. I don't understand some people, and I have no doubt that are people like your mother out there. I feel sorry for people like that, because she had...

And if he does answer, he will start ranting about Perfect Parent Syndrome again. He tried to lay that on me too. Telling me I don't love my daughter so I have to get her a CI so I can love her. Please! He has a lot to say about parenting, it's amazing how much someone without children can say...

    Parent and HA/CI issues

Good post!! You have every right to post your opinion. You (and your parents) should be very proud of yourself... you sound very smart. Good luck with your hearing aids, or whatever you decide to do. I hope all your experiences are positive!

    Parent and HA/CI issues

I don't think hearing aids or getting a CI teaches a child not to love themself. As long as parents give their children love, that is what teaches them about love. There are children all over with disabilites that love themselves, regardless of what measures the parents took to help them. I...

my experience with this forum as a parent with a child who has a CI

He could not have said this better. Deafdyke, you were the first person to give me guidance and input when I joined this site. I definetly value your opinion, and I appreciate that you look at the childrens best interest when giving advice.

my experience with this forum as a parent with a child who has a CI

Thank you. It's nice to hear people say you are doing a good job, especially since this is all so new to me. I definetly will not listen to people like that.... I'm 33, I've been around a lot longer than him. I can fairly say I know more about life than a teenager. You are right, there will...

my experience with this forum as a parent with a child who has a CI

I agree with you!! He said to me that I am so defensive and it makes me look suspicious (spelt wrong I think). I said when someone looks down on you it tends to make people defensive. How would he like it if I questioned his love for his girlfriend? I bet he wouldn't like it. But... I wouldn't...

my experience with this forum as a parent with a child who has a CI

I had a nice little conversation with him in PM about how I don't love my daughter and CI's aren't the only way to show a child you love them. This guy doesn't have a clue about anything. I told him when he grows up, he can talk to me about parenting. I told him I am not even going to waste my...

Deaf parents- Did you buy any device to hear your baby crying or making noise?

I am a hearing parent of a deaf child, but I was just thinking about this question the other day. I was thinking about far, far in the future if my daughter has children how would she hear them cry at night. Thanks for educating me!!

my experience with this forum as a parent with a child who has a CI

Neecy is 100% right. GNU, you are not a parent and you are not deaf, so you should not ridicule or attack Kayla, myself or any other parent for the choice they make with their children.

my experience with this forum as a parent with a child who has a CI

Kayla123, I have many of the same opinions as you. I am also a hearing parent of a deaf child, my daughter is only 4 months old. I am only starting the process of hearing aids, but our impression is she is showing little to no response with them. I came to this forum for the same reasons...

    I had three oprations

So far I can only tell you what they do for an infant. It's kind of amazing to know that they actually give speech therapy to an infant. My daughter is 4 months and they basically play with her. When they show her a toy, the give the toy a name and say what sound it makes. So they say, here is a...
