I met someone at the school I take my 5 month old to and she implanted her son at 8 months. That is the earliest I've ever heard. I would not consider implanting until at least 1 year old.

You are missing the point. A good majority of the parents on this site that have/will implant their children are already using sign language or learning it. I have read about numerous parents who say their children know it. No one here is saying to forget about sign language completely, everyone...
