Profound hearing loss + hearing aid questions

I too have sensorineural hearing loss in both ears. Both in the profound range but I had the added problem of just about zero speech comprehension. From the start of my hearing loss in the left, I could hear sound, but not understand speech so never bothered with an aid. The other ear lasted two...

    flipside Q about the CI!

The markup is incredible though...they billed my military insurance over $40,000 for my implant and the amount they were paid, as agreed upon by accepting my insurance was just over $17,000. Now that is quite a profit....for those that have insurance that pays the full price.

    flipside Q about the CI!

that's just the "candy", the cost is in those tiny electrodes and the chip(s) in the processor...the hi tech stuff. Oh...and the inflation of the actual cost. really high markup on CI's

    flipside Q about the CI!

Exactly. I never look at my display anymore. I put the processor on in the morning and then I turn it on. Change programs by listening to the beeps. I admit I can understand the excitement of a remote at first. I know I was excited with my remote for my Widex ha but after a while, it gets old...

    CI Moments

I was driving home from work yesterday and wasn't really in the mood for the tunes I usually listen to on my mp3 player. I turned on the radio instead to an "oldies" channel and was quite happy just hearing the drums in the songs that were playing. All of a sudden, I realized I knew the song...

    An internal question

faire_jour, It has been less than three months since my CI surgery, as you may remember. A few days after Miss Kats. This is what I have felt during the past few months. First week or so, pain, but not unbearable. Numbness in the skin around the incision as well as part of my tongue. The pain...

    flipside Q about the CI!

Exactly. People at work have noticed that I say "huh?" or "excuse me?" less...I am hearing them! What a wonderful gift! True, in noise not so good..but, I think some of that will get better too, in time. Who cares about a little numbness?

Phonak Savia Art Movie - Video - Wellsphere Don't know if this will help, but it was the only link I found that was not from a shopping site or from phonak.

    flipside Q about the CI!

Very true. And nine times out of ten, the risk is worth it. I still have a touch of that Novocaine feeling on my tongue and a bit of numbness on my scalp but I wouldn't trade that for my new ability to hear...not for anything. Besides, in my case, those feelings are going away over time..

Nor can they see CC. Two valuable tools for the deaf if they don't want to live in an isolated world.

She also, if you know anything about her, got to the point where there was little benefit. Even if there was some, add her blindness to that equation and she NEEDED a CI for her own safety and peace of mind.
