Cochlear Implant Surgery: Risks and stuff...

I don't know about AB, but Cochlear claims they have a 1% failure rate on their implants from what I read. Not bad odds.

Cochlear Implant Surgery: Risks and stuff...

I agree on that. I had to fax my shot record to my surgeon's office before they would go ahead with plans for my surgery.

Do You Wear Your Hearing Aid When Going Through A Metal Detector At The Airport?

I was reading at the Cochlear website and they even stated that you don't have to turn your CI off in the plane when they request computers, cell phones, etc to be turned off because they are medical devices. You do need to let the flight staff know that you are wearing one, however. I think the...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

Yeah, my jaw hurt like hell for quite a few weeks and though I didn't have the packing, I had that full feeling in the ear for about 4 weeks, then the blood clot absorbed back into the body. Once the staples come out you will feel a lot better. As for me, yes, it gets better every day..baby...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

It is due to a nerve, I think. My surgeon chose to "snip" the nerve while others move it out of the way. When the nerve is moved, it leaves a bad taste/metallic taste in the mouth. When they snip it, the numbness lasts a bit longer but the other nerves pick up the slack and though food tastes a...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

I would hate the packing, but I still had the feeling there was something in my ear..and there was...dried blood. It went away after a while, as did the numbness in the tongue and although I did not have a "funny taste" in my mouth, food tasted off for a while but that, too, went away. Is it a...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

I imagine it did give them pause for thought. LOL...You might try Walgreens or another pharmacy. I just like shopping online rather than running around since all those "conveniences" are 16 miles from my house.

Looks like I need to call my ENT

If you shop online, there are no rinse shampoos that do help quite a bit. Same for no rinse conditioners. You just put the product in your hair, keeping it away from the incision, lather and towel dry. Not perfect, but it should help. Not "dry shampoo" either. They are approved by hospitals.

Going crazy! Help me find HA

Perhaps it is not that you can't find the right aid but you need to find a different audi? I don't know your audi, but I know there should be an aid that can help. Most likely it won't help all that well in noise, but that is something we all face, CI and HA wearer alike. Your audi should be...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

That's not an option I would choose for me, but whatever works! I am still trying to figure out what to do with my hair. It is getting longer (after years of wearing it short) but still looks a bit funky on the implant side and it sticks out at odd angles at times over the coil.

Looks like I need to call my ENT

I was really glad my surgeon used the dissolve stitches. I do remember clearly telling my nurse to write everything down in detail for me. She promised she would, but never did. She gave my hubby instructions and of course, he forgot half of what she said.

Looks like I need to call my ENT

As already stated by others, each surgeon seems to do things a bit differently. Heck, even the same surgeon can change the way he does things, as was the case with Hear Again. Some use dissolving stitches, others use stitches that have to be taken out while others use staples or some even tape...

    How long is long enough?

I work for a major retail chain and three days a week I work in an office. I have a CI, but it has only been activated since December. I am still "learning to hear" and have not tried to use a phone. I may never be able to use a land line phone and due to that, I put in an ADA request for a...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

Thanks Lady Sekhmet. That all makes sense and my surgeon probably mentioned it but, back then, my hearing was in such rapid decline and I could barely understand anything being said. :topic: I am so sorry to read about your loss. Having had cats my entire adult life, I know how they work...

How do you listen to music with your CI?

I still haven't perfected mine yet, and I am not sure but I think that there is a glitch in my processor. From what I have read about the freedom, you should be able to do one of the following: turn off the processor, attach the cable and then attach it to the mp3 player, then turn processor...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

I am sure it is nothing..I am just alarmed due to a discussion with my surgeon before I was activated. At that point, I could barely catch any words even with speech reading..so, most likely making a mountain out of a molehill. But..that is me..prepare for the worst...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

If that is the case, I need to have a talk with my surgeon as he left that out. It is not anywhere near the implant, it is just behind the earlobe, in the middle. Odd...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

Hubby said it felt weird too, but when I look in the mirror, there is no change in the front. Just like a huge "dimple" behind my ear..well, huge to me, since it wasn't there before.

Looks like I need to call my ENT

Can I say "WHEW"? Just hearing (no pun intended) that someone else has that is a big relief. It just feels so funky!!! I am still going to call..just to make sure. But, I do feel better...thanks.
