to cure or not to cure?

I had a harder time adjusting. Hearing normally for 49 of my 52 years. Rapid loss during the last three. I accepted the fact that I am not "hearing" and actually have adjusted ok. I get up in the morning and the CI is not the first thing I think of. There have been many times I have walked out...

    CI Colors

Cochlear has different pattern/color stickers for the processors..different themes, like sports, too. Does AB? It's cool, just not sure it is me.

    t-coil and cell phone question?

Yes, but all the other sounds I hear get in the way.

Looks like I need to call my ENT

Except for this last time, due to spare processor repair, I have known when I leave after a mapping when the next will be. Not sure that will be the norm, but one can hope. Makes life easier to plan ahead.

    t-coil and cell phone question?

They make the dai for mp3 players and tv/stereo, but they don't have a phone cable any longer other than the Hatas t-coil. I even emailed them and they referred me off site to less expensive versions. And how would I do the bold part?

to cure or not to cure?

I doubt it would work for me either. They found ossification in my cochlea and assume there is the same, if not more, in the other ear. But, there are advancements being done in CI as well with laser and fiber optics.

    Another Update *sigh*

Lisa, the more I read, the more I think there is an underlying cause for your dizziness that only happens to be triggered by sounds. Having your CI's for so long without trouble just makes them being the "bad guys" not ring true. Have there been any other changes in your life? Diet...

    About the Balance

I still have what I call min-spins post CI, but they are fewer and farther apart than before. That is the meniere's disease that still rears it's ugly head from time to time, though. I did not have any of that during the first month post op.

    t-coil and cell phone question?

I have never used a t-coil before. Even with my ha's I had dai connection but Cochlear does not make one. Is it normal for you not to hear your own voice? That takes me back to pre-CI when I had no control over my own volume and I don't like it.

looks like i am going to be the guinea pig!

Sounds pretty cool to be part of a study. A great way to help those CI users to come.

    CI Colors

My first processor and coil are tan. Yuck. They are my backup and my regular processor and coil are chocolate to go with my hair. I do have some blue mic covers for a change of pace, if I choose. And I can always mix and match the brown and the tan, add the blue and I have "walmart" colors :)

to cure or not to cure?

When I had my CI surgery, I asked my surgeon about bilateral and he said he would prefer to wait on a second surgery due to advancements in medicine. IF those advancements were not viable in say, 10 years, he would consider the second surgery. So, compromise. Go for CI in one ear and save the...

I need help with my thesis

This is from Hear Again's log "A New Beginning" I was born with normal hearing. By age 3, I was diagnosed with a mild hearing loss. Hearing aids and ear surgery were recommended for me at the time but because of issues related to my parents' health insurance, I went without. Fortunately I...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

Just got a message on my machine to call my audi and make an appt. I don't answer the phone yet, but I did understand most of what she said on the machine. Will have my other daughter, the one that lives in that town call and get me an appointment.

Looks like I need to call my ENT

I certainly will. She has been great. As a matter of fact, if I don't text her to do something for me she will fuss. "you know that is my job, Mom".

Looks like I need to call my ENT

I would have my usual "go to" person call, but she is my youngest daughter and home sick from work with a flu bug. So, a fax will do as the office is pretty good about responding.

Sounds very interesting. Do let us in on it after your appointment.

Looks like I need to call my ENT

The reason she didn't set up a date this time was due to the fixing of my spare. Since I live over two hours away, she didn't want me to have to make an extra trip. I am going to fax her in the morning.

Looks like I need to call my ENT

I have only had one mapping since the activation. And she only increased the volume to step me up gradually to noise. I am waiting for a call to go back, as she was going to time it to the arrival of my fixed/replaced spare processor, but it has been six weeks and I have heard nothing. I am up...
