    Another Newbie Thread

I wish I could adjust it, but it's a preset. It's an effect that comes with my Logitech camera. I think I will go buy some video editing software so that I can get the effect I want. I agree, it's too neon and the lines blur too much :\ I'll have to play around with different ideas. :ty...

    why not aspire to speak?

This reminds me of a book called Rich Dad, Poor Dad. In the book the "rich dad" had to drop out of school and take over his family business when he was twelve. He never got to graduate from high school. Yet he was one of the wealthiest men in Hawaii. "Poor dad" is what we call "successful". He...

    why not aspire to speak?

Yes... I'm going to assume that you've already read through all of the responses in this thread. I'm also going to assume that you comprehended what you read. Therefore, elaborate on what you mean by "More education, more opportunities. More abilities, more opportunities."

    why not aspire to speak?

There's nothing wrong with learning to speak and write well. In America reading and writing are actually subjects taught in school. (Yes, Deaf people get education too.) Deaf people are also bombarded with vocal lessons. From an audiological viewpoint there are varying degrees of "hearing loss"...

    Hi from France!

Wow! I wish I had some substantial advice to give. It seems that learning LSF would be best for right now. There are so many similarities that it shouldn't be hard for your daughter to transition to ASL. It would probably actually help her to be bilingual in America (since most Deaf in America...

    Question: Why d/Deaf?

Her sig is her name fingerspelled in BSL (British Sign Language). BSL manual alphabet is completely different from ASL (American Sign Language). I should learn BSL :) I saw some good videos on Youtube.

Darn. I was trying to preserve the facial expressions :\ I might as well go with some sort of blur in just one area then.

    Mother of LDA Daughter

Welcome! Your story is awesome :) I'm curious to know how you encountered Deaf culture and ASL. You must live either in California or on the East coast :D

I don't know where else to put this... I'm testing out a video effect so I can make a Vlog and stay anonymous at the same time. If you see this, can you tell me what you think? YouTube - test Thank you :)

    Hate crime and the deaf

This might not even be the right person. I just picked the most relevant and recent article from that blogger... the link might not be right at all. Yeah, I just read that one. True, Betty White's ILY sign was off. But I still adore her :)

    Hate crime and the deaf

Can you elaborate? Have they developed CIs that last for a lifetime now?

    What did you learn today?

I learned about bracelet flash drives. I don't know why I am apparently clueless about these things. I was very protective of my siblings when they were six. If a kid left a "marry me" message for one of my little sisters I'd probably dash all of his hopes :)

    Hate crime and the deaf

I wish I knew :aw: Maybe if more parents know that CIs destroy residual hearing and that CIs have to be replaced every few years, parents will understand that CIs don't "fix" anything. Also if more parents understood the benefits of a bilingual-bicultural method I'm sure that many parents would...

    Hate crime and the deaf

This is cool :D What is the name of the children's festival in May 2011? Would it be in Ontario? The more I watch Carl Schroeder's videos, the more I like him :D His contributions are inspiring. Edit: Oops, nevermind. I found it in the video description when I followed the link to Youtube...

    Hate crime and the deaf

That is a valid point. I'm glad at least the animosity in this thread is cleared up. Now if only hearing people will finally realize that there is Deaf culture and finally understand and correct the forms of audism. It would be nice if Deaf culture was allowed to thrive without a constant...

Have any of you felt extremely lonely & lost at some point...?

Keep your faith! Prayer and study will certainly help. Meanwhile have you tried applying for a VP? Having a VP will help you communicate with others all over the country. Are you willing to travel? There are all kinds of Deaf social events. For instance, there is one coming up in Las Vegas...
