Cheapest way to replace a Nucleus 5

I have a Freedom that I don't use, but I don't know if it is backwards-compatible with the N5. Shit happens, that's why we take out insurance on expensive stuff. Not much you can do but go after the person who pushed your wife into the lake....can ask them to help pay for the 'damages'. p.s...

A question...is the Cochlear implant made for the hearing or for the deaf?

If it was the dumbest thing you've heard, how do you explain the high unemployment rate amongst deaf people?

A question...is the Cochlear implant made for the hearing or for the deaf?

Exactly. Discrimination is a very difficult thing to prove in hiring processes. People are gullible if they think they are protected by EEO and ADA while looking for a job.

A question...is the Cochlear implant made for the hearing or for the deaf?

Tell me, how long have you been working for employers now? Private organizations? Governmental? Do you really think that deaf people are entitled to work wherever they want, with all the accommodations they need?

A question...is the Cochlear implant made for the hearing or for the deaf?

Correct. I get copies of what the insurance pays for my medical issues. For the first implant in 2003, $60K was paid to the doctor & hospital. Second one, $82K was paid to the doctor & hospital. Broken down, the doctor only got $2500 for a couple hours of surgery. Hospital got about $6K. The...

A question...is the Cochlear implant made for the hearing or for the deaf?

Really, it is none of your business, but I will answer it anyway: My employer's insurance paid for both. I had to pay a $8K deductible out of my own pocket for the second one. All maintenance and batteries are paid by me. I have never received a single dime from the government.

    Help with batteries please

I went on fleaBay and noticed two new manufacturers of batteries. One is made in Japan and the other, I am not sure. Out of curiosity, I ordered a small number of each, will try them out and report back. Seller claims both are highly rated, and because they cost less, I want to see if they are...

A question...is the Cochlear implant made for the hearing or for the deaf?

To add to my post above: The CI is NOT an answer to all deaf people. Because I did my research, I felt it was worth the risk to give it a shot, and I am glad I did. There are deaf people that will not benefit from HA's or CI's. Does that mean I am in a better position than they are? Of course...

A question...is the Cochlear implant made for the hearing or for the deaf?

My opinion? The CI was invented as a tool that should help people hear when HA's fail to satisfy them. We are human beings. We have organs that serve a specific purpose. Our eyes let us see, our ears let us hear, our knees let us be mobile, etc, etc. Glasses were invented to help us see...

Will I qualify for Social Security Disability benefits ? Hearing loss on both ears 90

Seriously, you need to see a professional counselor. Many of us deaf folks work in the IT field, and we are able to do our jobs without needing to hear....we still find ways to communicate effectively. Are you late deafened? If yes, what was the cause?

Will I qualify for Social Security Disability benefits ? Hearing loss on both ears 90

It is painful go lose that much income, especially if you are used to the $200K lifestyle. Just remind yourself that 95% of us citizens can only dream of earning $70K per year. Supplemental income is for those that make something like less than $700 per month. Disability income gets you 60%...
