    Question about Recovery

By early July, you'll be feeling fine! In fact, you should feel back to your ol' self in about a week, maybe even less if you're like most people. :) I asked my Dr last summer concerning rides at Cedar Point. You know what he said? The only concern is losing CI's, he said "enjoy the rides...

    I gots good news

ladycaissa: Sorry I'm late but I wanted to congratulate you on your journey to being a CI'er. I see you're having surgery today and will be activated on the 28th, same day as me. Only difference was my surgery was May 8th, not today. I wish I could be activated now but my Dr. does not believe...

    hearing aid VS CI

That's great that you're happy with your hearing aids! I was the same way myself, been wearing hearing aids since I was a baby, couldn't go a day without my hearing aids, and thought I'd always be a hearing aids user 'til tinnitus and vertigo changed my whole world, so here I am, a bilateral CI...

    For any Aunts/uncles or others

It all depends on if your niece is ready for the responsibilities that comes with driving. And how you feel, are you comfortable being in a car with a teen that is learning how to drive? If not, then that's what schools or driver schools are for! Good luck!

    question about battery charger

Dang. I've never given it a thought regarding overcharging! I just asked my husband about it and he said that when it's charging, the green light is blinking, then when it's done charging, it turns into a steady green light that stays lit until I pull the battery I want to use next off. I...

    do our own adjustments?

I think I have told my husband that it was too bad he wasn't a CI audiologist otherwise he could have just done all my mapping himself or teach me how to. He works with computers for a living so he'd learn fast on how to do it. And it'd save us gas $ on driving 45 mins each ways to the hospital...

    CI Moments

Latest CI moment: Yesterday I was at the nearby high school for my daughters' dress rehersal. Their recital is Friday and Saturday. I didn't volunteer backstage as I normally would due to just having surgery. Anyways, I was reminded just how thankful I am having my CI. I could hear and follow...

    I'm offically a bilateral CI'er!

Thanks everyone! :) This time around is truly much different. It's weird! Even my newly implanted side of my head isn't even numb. Last year it was numb for weeks. Now, it's only numb around the ear. Only thing that's the same is the swollen eye. I had to go back to the hospital, only this...

    Music with a CI

dreamchaser: What I do is when I listen to a song I've never heard before or don't know all the words to it, I'll go to a website that provides lyrics and read 'em while listening to the songs. Or on youtube, I'll find songs that also has words provided so that I could learn it. After that I...

    Music with a CI

Sr17soars: That was also the case for me. I could hear music well with a HA, and can hear it now with my CI, only better, since I can now understand more words/more lyrics in songs than I did before. So, yep that's the fun part for me. :) heh. :) To the OP: Good luck on your May 6th surgery...

    Hi. It's been awhile!

deaffdyke: Call me crazy but I think the deaf community accepted hearing aids a lil bit better because most of us were forced to wear it in preschool-elemtentary school then in junior high we had a choice wheter to wear 'em or not. I choose to wear my own HAs everyday while most of the deafies I...

    Hi. It's been awhile!

Pinky: Thanks! The Deaf community isn't actually what I'm worried about. It's more of me hoping that the 2nd CI will work just as well, or hell even better than the 1st CI. The Dr. kinda scared me when he said that there are different possibilties, as in the 2nd CI might not work as well as...

    Deaf Dwarf or Mignet

I'm only 5 ft myself so while I'm not a LP, I'm still short. :) I never knew or realized that rubella babies tend to be shorter. I'm a rubella baby also and am shorter than both of my parents. My mom is like 5'4 and my Dad is like 5'10-5'11 so with me not even being able to reach my Mom's...

    CI Relationships

Raykat: That's an interesting question you have here! I am in a deaf/hearing realationship myself. I've been with my husband for 10 yrs now, married for almost 8 yrs. When he met me, he knew me as a deaf person who wore both hearing aids and could speak so well but because of his braces, I had...
