Okay I see that the report is dated June 4, 2007 (originally published October 2002) I wonder what was the updates were in the report since then.

Is it wrong to back to analog?

I am still using a Analog aid in my other ear along with my Cochlear implant on my right ear. I have been told that I am one of the highest achievers in Colorado and I surprised many audiologists to see that I am still using an Analog aid at my level of performance. I find that linear works...

CI users. Can you use the phone?

Same here I am also in the IT field, having to work on the Help desk all day speaking with technical support people with heavy English accent in various counties. That is quite a challenge working in that field on 12 hour shifts. Three out of 50 that can use the phone regularly? I would think...

    atoh1 Treatment for Hearing Loss

If I understand the article, virus is being used to protect hearing from future ototoxic efects and can help in hair cell differentiation when trying to regenerate hair cells.

    Duracell Hearing Aid Batteries

I just use the Radio Shack batteries since they were a bit cheaper locally. I get about three weeks per battery and only two and half days per pack of three batteries for my CI implant.

    NEW nucleus 5

What you are seeing on the internal implant for the nucleus 5 is the back side with the square inner block that will be facing the skull to lock it into place. If you look at the outer square of the implant it is beveled at the corners. This new internal implant is much thinner and it is more...

The person is talking about the new thinner internal implant being more "square" as compared to the older Freedom implant. The new nucleus 5 external implant will have a partly metal housing as well.

MED EL is researching, in laboratory tests and in vivo models...

This has nothing to do with stem cells at all. This is using chemicals to reduce insertion trauma.

    The debate may be wrong

ref74 I agree to many things that you said. In my 20's I was a bit disappointed that hearing aids manufactures did all their research in mid power aids and added all new features to mid power aids and did not have the time or money to copy those improvements to the Ultra high power aids. I...

Will cochlear implants be obsolete when stem cells comes?

It is unlikely that Stem cells will have much improvement with people that have small cochlea's to begin with, however I have great success with my CI implant with my small cochea's. Some people do not have the full 2 /12 turns in their cochlea's but still can have some success with a CI...

    The debate may be wrong

More history In 1957 Djourno and Eyries placed wires on nerves exposed during an operation and reported the first in-depth description of effects on a deaf person that heard sounds like "a roulette wheel" and "a cricket" They were hampered at the time for good microsurgical techniques...

    The debate may be wrong

The multiple-channel Cochlear Implant was invented by Graeme Clark and he was motivated by his father’s struggle with deafness to find a way to help him and others. Graeme Clark did alot of research in this area and had his own Cochlear Implant Clinic you can check out his Bio for more details...

Do you think transpositional(high freq---> low freq) HAs will be popular soon?

I am aware of the two case studies and just keep in mind that the Hearing Review magazine is supported in part by hearing aids manufactures. I read the mag myself to spot trends. Many adults can not adjust to the transposition aids as the sounds will tend not to be "natural" and may not always...

    Moisture problem?

What I use to dry out my ears in the hot summer is my mixture of alcohol, a bit of water and a bit of distilled white vinegar which just makes the ears cannals just a bit acid to prevent fungus. I put the mixure into a dropper bottle and put in a few drops in when I go to bed with the hearing...

I Won't Be Going For CI At This Time.

Having two ears working together usually works better. But what I am talking about is bimodal hearing not binaural hearing. I am combining my remaining residual hearing in the left ear that only has 18% discrimination left with my hearing on the right with the CI at 85% discrimination...

    Phonak Naida

It is a mechanical audio filter designed to tame the resonance peak that is in all BTE hearing aids usually close to 1kHz. In other words it is a notch filter to smooth the peak. As you can tell it usually cause more problems than it solves. This has been a feature on some hearing aids for a...

Do you think transpositional(high freq---> low freq) HAs will be popular soon?

deafdude1 transposition aids has been around a long time starting the AVR aids made in Israel way back to late 1990's and they never became popular. I spoke audiologists at the time and only a few people can understand speech that has been transposed to a different frequency band. I am very...
