Nucleus 5 upgrade for an older model implant is available?

Just two days ago Advanced Bionics made the Harmony Sound Processor available for the older C1 Recipients that was relased in Nov. 2007 I beleive. I do not think it will take Cochlear that long. Since there is some software changes that have to been done for the older implants the bottleneck is...

Virgin Mobile - $25 data Plan a month!

Virgin Mobile is owned by Sprint and uses the Sprint network, so it should be the same as a Sprint phone in coverage. I was very impress by the LG Rumor Touch for call quality and it was one of the best phones for using it on the T-coil. Strong call signal and lack of interference to my...

Studies has shown that two ears working usually will better in noise and that includes bimodal users as well. You stated that classrooms, environments, playground, loud gyms and restaurants are examples of noisy environments that having two ears working will help. However in my case I still find...

    Hearing aids vs. Headphones

If you have a computer that you can plug in your headphones you can use the equalizer that is found in Media player. You can also use the night audio position to compress the sounds a bit as not to overload your ears.

questions or thoughts for CI bimodal users

With a direct connection to your TV and IPod for music you can deliver a better quality of a signal since your are bypassing the weaker quality of the speaker in the TV and the room environment can degrade the sound quality as well. People with good normal hearing will notice this much less than...

Uk's First cochlear implant operation to give sound in both ears

Phi4Sius, I would agree with you on this. The main reason for this innovation is to help reduce the cost in countries where bilateral implants are restricted to cost constraints, such as the UK for example.

questions or thoughts for CI bimodal users

Yes, what you describe is quite common when first wearing the cochlear implant in the morning that is may take a few minutes to adjust to the electrical stimulation of sounds. I find the same thing happens to me when I change programs that involves a change in stimulation speeds. I am bimodal...

Its that time - CI batteries

I was getting about 2 and 1/2 days with Power Ones disposables batteries. and at this point with my rechargeables I am getting a day and half now. My rule of thumb with rechargeables is half the run time as compared to the disposables batteries. This is a bit better than the Freedom rechargeable.

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

The Oticon Safari 134/127db output is just a bit less power than my Phonak Supero. The Oticon Safari does have Spatial sound processing when using two aids that talks to each other that supposedly helps to improve localization cues but I can not wear two aids any more with my CI implant.

    Loudness

Yes I can hear speech in quite but hearing aids also have a adjustment on the maximum power that they can give to protect the remaining hearing. This means that maximum power will be the same after a point and talking or screaming would not get any louder after a point. In my case normal...

    Loudness

I remember that when I was wearing hearing aids and I get a bit upset or emotional I tend to be not aware on how loud my voice is becoming and it becomes hoarse after awhile. I did not sound like a hearing child as I was growing up and that is some thing my mother had to get used to.

I have the Supero and they are about two generations ago and they are a early Phonak all digital super power hearing aids. The noise canceler feature of the Phonaks are very similar to the clear voice that is coming out for the Advanced Bionics cochlear implants.
