Getting CI- Confused not sure what to do

I second this. For me the N5 was a good improvement over my freedom which is still my backup. The N5 has better microphones and zoom instead of beam on the Freedom.

    Cochlear Implant Patients.

I understand where you come from. When I was a kid I had to take off my hearing aids when I am taking showers and or swimming in a pool. Without the aids I could not hear the joyful sounds or laughter of kids in the pool. That is my reality being deaf at times without much issues to deal with...

    Cochlear Implant Patients.

The Med-El standard electrode array is a bit longer than the others on purpose in order to reach the lower pitch nerves. I have small cochlea’s and the Med-El standard array is unlikely to fit in with my cochlea’s. Med-El does have a compressed array that is shorter that may fit better. It may...

This may be a stupid question...

I see why you were confused and Cochlear does sell other products and one additional product Cochlear makes is artificial outer ears that will match the face for people that do not have one for whatever reason.

    Phone and CI...any similar experience?

If you are using the auto T-coil and yes it will cut out the first second or two so I just use the manual T-coil setting on the processor itself and it is very helpful in noisy situation and in outdoors when there is allot of wind. I use an audio loop system at work that allows both ears, one...

    Phone and CI...any similar experience?

I was born HOH with small cochlea’s and never had “normal” hearing. Worn hearing aids all my life and still do with the left ear. I started with a bulky body aid which took a bit of adjusting. I was mainstream at school and then went to R.I.T./N.T.I.D. to get a engineering degree.

    Phone and CI...any similar experience?

No, I do not need to know who is calling in order to understand. I did ran in a few cases that a Brazil job recruiter working in the US call me about a job and yes I did had a bit of trouble. In other words I can understand about 90% of strangers that call me. Yes I am using my CI. The results...

    Phone and CI...any similar experience?

I can use the cell phone quite well. I have to search and try out phones in a company store to pick out the phones that have the best sound quality for my needs. Some cell phones will cause a bit of interference with my hearing aid or CI. I use the 100% T-coil when using the cell phone in a...

    Wow! AB's Harmony vs. Cochlear's Nucleus 5!

I am sure that all three makes have good moisture resistance. Officially, Cochlear has a IP(Ingress Protection Rating) rating of IP54 on the N5 for using disposable batteries and IP57 for the rechargeable battery. IP Code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Another recall for AB

If you read the official AB corporate response that was posted in the middle of the hearingblog you find that AB is taking this recall quite seriously and outlines what could happen. The rest of the Blog is much more techincal on what may be the issue but it is speculation at this point.

    Another recall for AB

Like I said a bit different. The Cochlear electrode claw is a straight tool and the AB is a bend tool and it was not intended to be universally made for other makes of Implants Not sure why you having a hard time to understand this.

    Another recall for AB

The implant surgeon tools like gauges and templates which are of different sizes are custom made by the CI manufactures for each model of implant tool kit for the surgeon. Most can be reused for the next surgery for that same model. The surgeon also has standard tools in addition like cutting...

    Another recall for AB

Sorry but your are incorrect. They are not standard surgical tools. You can not use Advance Bionics tools to implant a Cochlear N5 implant for example. Like your URLs are showing that they are a bit different.

    Another recall for AB

The tools that the surgeon uses are a bit different for each make. The longest part of the surgery is the drilling out the recess for the receiver package. There is parts inventory for each of the manufacturers. The surgeon also takes classes for each make. The Cochlear N5 internal implant...

    Another recall for AB

I just heard that the two patients that started the recall have been successfully re-implanted with new AB devices with no issues so far. However all AB implant surgeries have been canceled in USA and postponed until it can be determine if this is a isolated case or a problem developing with the...
