I am hearing, but not really

Thanks :) That's what I am afraid of - that it will be a waste of time. It isn't that debilitating for me. I get frustrated now and then - how many times do I need to make it obvious you cannot start talking from a distance? I am afraid of loud public places, but I have tried to get over that.

To everyone, thanks for your advice. I probably should see someone. I have excellent insurance, is it usually covered?

I am hearing, but not really

I am sorry, what I meant was that I know it is fine to be deaf. You wrote that I was being 'stubborn' and like an audist. I hate audists. I am just telling you why someone would be stubborn about it. I am just venting a little.

Enrolling KODAs in a State Deaf School's PreSchool Program?

My guess is that by not going to the deaf school- they will become more attached to the hearing world and perhaps more disconnected from their parents. This is basically the state coming between a parent and their children. Kids have plenty of time to catch up with a second language.

Oh, and by 'you' I didn't mean anyone here. I could have better expressed that as "having grown up...

I am hearing, but not really

I'm sorry if what I am saying bothers anyone - that's not my point. But someone that doesn't want to acknowledge hearing loss might have psychological reasons for it.

I am hearing, but not really

Nothing like watching a parent getting insulted for not responding to someone, someone too stupid to understand there are deaf and HoH people in the world. Nothing like watching people make jokes quietly, or snicker because they responded mistakenly to what they said.

I am hearing, but not really

If you grew up with a deaf parent and saw their frustration and treatment by society, I think you might be saddened by the thought of losing your hearing.

I am hearing, but not really

In a very quite place I can look to the side of a person's face and still understand what they are saying. In a slightly noisy place I need to look at their lips to understand what they are saying In a loud place, their lips and my guessing make sense of what they are saying somewhat- but I want...

Gallaudet Graduate Student - Cochlear Implant Controversy Presentation

Mental disability and illness are essentially the same thing. Autism is a spectrum of things and people with the milder forms can integrate fully into society - whilst having a compromised sense of empathy. Assuming you don't need to stand up/ It is all about placing the right person in the...

I am hearing, but not really

Thanks, I am not trying to be argumentative! I just want to understand- It is my understanding that hearing aids and such simply amplify existing sounds? I can hear the sounds, but they are too mumbled. I am terrified of loud public places. I cannot tell people I am deaf, but I cannot hear them...

I am hearing, but not really

I don't know if anything can be done. I can hear sounds just fine. I know when someone is talking to me and when I turn around to ask them to repeat it I am told I wasn't paying attention. Most of the quieter sounds are strange to me. I actually find my brain trying to make sense of them and...

I am hearing, but not really

I don't know if anyone can relate =\ My dad is deaf, my mom is hearing. My ears have quite a bit of scaring, damage, and hearing loss. To the average person, I can hear normally. Because NORMALLY people look at you when they are talking. My dad lip reads and I picked up this as a kid. I want...

    Mac Now supports Window

x86 refers to PCs. Again, this is more of a project for computer nerds. I was just pointing out the possibility - not the feasibility :)

    Mac Now supports Window

Installing Windows on a Mac is very easy and supported by Apple. Installing Mac OS on an PC is difficult because Apple does not want it. It 'violates the EULA' which doesn't really mean anything legally. Mac OS must recognize a chip in the motherboard to be installed on a PC. There are ways...
