    CI and extreme noises ?

I actually just discussed this with my audi. the other day. The end result of the conversation was that its unlikely that the external processor would be damaged by the noise of shooting , but that ear plugs would be advised anyway. As it could induce other damage.

    Differences between cp800 and cp810

I am not worried or confused about it at all. I have already spoken to my aud and she has no clue as to what differences there are ( if any ) Google has not been able to identify any information about it. So I decided to ask here about it before asking CA directly. Simply because they are...

    Differences between cp800 and cp810

I was looking for actual details that CA might not want to inform me of. Seeing as how they are sending one as a replacement , I fully expect them to say "No differences" Similar to how they are recommending the older freedom internals while the ci-512 is under recall. Which is just an older...

    Differences between cp800 and cp810

Ok .. then why would I get an email from CA that includes the following line CP810 SERIES PROCESSING UNIT (BROWN) -1 $0.00 CP800 SERIES PROCESSING UNIT (BROWN), REFURBISHED,Warranty Ends on XX-XX-XX $0.00 That sure reads as if there is such a thing as a cp800 processor.

    Differences between cp800 and cp810

Thanks for trying to help , but there is actual a processor model cp800. I am having a warranty issue , and CA is sending me a cp800 to replace my cp810 , and I am curious as to the differences. ( The model numbers are listed on the invoice itself )

    What you think ?

Of course there is going to be no sound when the processor is off. Thats the only way any sound is going to get to your brain. It is very rare to have any natural hearing survive the implant process. Meaning that , implanting that ear has effectively killed any residual hearing you had in that...

    What you think ?

This really is a question for your aud. However , to me , it reads as if this could just be your brain adjusting to the stimulation. You JUST had this thing activated a month ago. it takes a while for things to settle down and even out. Most likely its actual an actual sound that you are hearing...

    Tomorrow is the day!

The pre-op is more about getting the latest pictures and getting paperwork filled out then anything else. I had a CT done during my preop , which was also done about a week before the actual install. Congrats on deciding to get it done. Curious as to which you are going with , AB or med-el ...

    CI Surgery approved today

To "order" angle sound ( Have a cd mailed to you ) you simply send them an email and ask for it. Is your ipad not set up to send email ? Because that is all that is required. Don't forget that you can download it also( it is for windows only , so you need to download it on the PC you wish to...

Apple seeks patent for hearing aids

One of the most common ways to measure a companies value or size is market cap. Which is to say , the total value of all the stock the company has outstanding. Which is also another way of saying "how much money would it take to buy ALL of the stock of a company at any given moment in time"...

    CI and extreme noises ?

I am curious as to what the thoughts are regarding CI and extremely loud noises. Guns in particular. While I know that the CI itself will not stimulate above the set comfort level. Could the microphones become damaged by the loud shockwave from EXTREME noises such as a gunshot ? Also ...

Those who decide not to get a CI

That is a point of semantics .. The word amputee means "someone that has had an amputation" it really can not be used to make an analogy here. Because the line between amputee and not amputee is having had an "amputation" .. that can technically never be undone .. Even a star fish that grows...

Those who decide not to get a CI

Yet my question still remains .. Why would ( should ) a CI / HA user still technically be classified as deaf it they can perform at a level above which a non CI / HA user would not be technically classified as deaf. To expand .. a non HA /CI user that has a pure tone test and hits...

Those who decide not to get a CI

That is referring to the term Deaf as a cultural term ( The deaf / used as a noun ) .. I am speaking of the technical /descriptive term ( used as an adjective ) .. Capital D vs small d

Those who decide not to get a CI

So .. as technology progresses if/and/or/when a CI is invented that restores hearing completely .. the user will still be deaf ? Previously in this thread it was presented that the line between deaf / not deaf is "the ability to discriminate speech". Are you saying that the line can only...

Those who decide not to get a CI

I am simply trying to understand why some level of performance is classified as deaf simply because the person is using a CI. if the performance is the same as a non CI user .. why is the term still deaf. And I am not talking about culture. about the technical term.

Those who decide not to get a CI

Cant compare the two .. The word amputee reefers to the amputation .. that is a fact that can never change. This would be more analogous to the term "legless" Which yes .. while using the prosthetic the user is no longer "legless"

Those who decide not to get a CI

but it is also not deaf. where is the line .. Previously in this thread someone stated it as "ability to understand speech" Does the lack of the ability to understand whispers across a crowded room define deaf even if the person is not a CI user ??Why does that lack bring the CI user...

Those who decide not to get a CI

Well .. I can not say what she hears , I am not her .. But if she can hear and understand spoken words at a 'normal' level with her back turned. How is that functionally any different from someone that does not use a ci ? Technically the term deaf should not apply.
