Why - Why the Medical Society constantly pressure on the Parents?

simply because not every piece of technology is the same. Just like no two deaf people, or CI-implanted people are the same. You can be dependent on your car getting you to/from work. You can also be dependent on your bicycle doing the same thing.....the bicycle might be slower but it still...

Why - Why the Medical Society constantly pressure on the Parents?

We're dependent on our CI's, there's no doubting that, but the CI itself can make one more independent. At least it has for me.

Why CI is bad for kids under 6 yrs.

It was a similie. Sorry you didn't get it. The point is it never ends. This argument just goes 'round and 'round and 'round.....

    Songs to Listen

I find with new songs, I have to "teach" myself the lyrics first...but once I do, I can almost immediately recognize the song if its being played - in fact I remember being at CURVES this summer and was working out - they always have music playing but usually its songs that I don't yet know -...

Why CI is bad for kids under 6 yrs.

The whole issue is like a merry-go-round, where nobody gets the brass ring.

    MP3 Players ??

If you could find an audio cable with boots/ports to fit BOTH, I don't see why not. It might be confusing though considering the inputs would be pretty different, but if it works better that way for somebody it might be worth exploring.

    Does CI person need interpreter?

I just wanted to say. I consider my CI a miracle, and it has helped me interact with greater ease in the hearing world, but *I am still deaf* and always will be. Don't lump everybody together.

    Does CI person need interpreter?

In my situation - I was receiving NO helpful in put from HA's. I had a 120+db loss in both ears...so if my CI failed, I'd be no worse off than I was prior to getting implanted. As to understanding language - besides what has already been stated here by others (great posts too, folks!) you have...

Why - Why the Medical Society constantly pressure on the Parents?

I am meeting with three sets of parents who have deaf children next week, they want to ask me questions both about my experience growing up deaf, and how my CI works, the process of getting it, and all that kind of stuff. I don't see this as doctors and audiologists pressuring them -THEY...

    The Ugly Truth of CI

I know what you mean, Shel. I have a friend online, and her best friend got a CI last year, and has since been totally lambasted by her deaf friends for making the decision to get implanted. It breaks my heart to hear of people who are faced with that kind of abuse, and closed-mindedness.

Hearing Aid in Combo with CI?

After I was activated, I tried using my hearing aid in combination with my CI (CI in right ear, HA in left ear) but I found that instead of helping, the HA made everything more confusing, as its two vastly different types of sound. I know many people who successfully use both, but you won't know...

new invisible implant hearing aid is promise!

That's quite a singular perspective you have. If I could only wear hearing aids this might be just the thing, so you wouldn't have to worry about changing the battery all the time, taking it off when you go swimming or in the shower, having to have new earmolds made every few years, constantly...

I haven't had the chance to try out an iPhone, but I have a motorola Razr V3T and I love it - sound comes through crystal clear with my CI.
