    Cochlear Implant: Best Technology Myth

You are not factoring in clinic "suggestions". Many audis have only worked with one brand so their experience is limited. I'm sorry, but I disagree that they are all the same. First, one brand has no expansion capability in their implants so what you get is what you get. Where will you be...

Problems with Advanced Bionics Naida CI

That is because the other brands really haven't rolled out an entirely new processor like AB did with the Naida. There are going to be bugs, however, in hindsight with many of the people reporting some of these issues, they were not infact equipment issues, just user issues (like needing...

    CIs and Music

Music is great with my Advanced Bionics!! I have one wonky electrode that we are working on that give the high C notes an odd quality but outside of that, everything sounds like it did when I had my normal hearing. I can distinguish the various instruments, hear the harmonics, the rich tones...

    Cochlear Implant Life-Long Commitment

I guess if you want to limit yourself to living in the deaf world, that is your choice. I choose the hearing world and would not be happy if circumstances forced me into the deaf world.

    Suggestions please and thank you

The more power you need, the bigger the hearing aid is going to get. There is only so much the audiologist can do about that. As for the CI's, your loss I guess. I love my CI's after almost 20 years of struggling with HA's and going from about 27% on my speech tests with my HA's to getting...

    Suggestions please and thank you

Try Costco. They have a Phonak (and other brands) for a fraction of the cost. Also, you might have just dropped down enough where HA's no longer work that well for you. Have you considered looking into Cochlear Implants?

    Process of CI

You have to first go through the formality of getting tested to see if you qualify. For people in the US under 65, that means you have less than 50% hearing, aided. You also need an MRI/CT scan to make sure physically your ear can accept the CI. Some insurance companies require a...

    Choosing a cochlear implant brand

AB has hands down the best technology on the market. Cochlear is in a distant 3rd. Many audis prefer Cochlear because that is what they are used to dealing with. Cochlear is fine for someone that has never had hearing or has had little hearing over their lifetime, but if you have had success...

    Considering implant for your child

You are wrong. I am deaf, but my deafness has been fixed with CI's. Just curious--for those that think HA's and CI's are evil, do you wear glasses or would you wear them if your sight required it???? No, this forum is Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implants :).

    Considering implant for your child

I'm not, never learned it. I live in a hearing world, always have, always will. NO need for sign language that NO ONE I know uses.... No there are not...FDA guidelines do not allow that...besides, even if they did, so what?? Yep--extreme, whatever. You two are really reaching for it...

    Considering implant for your child

As a deaf adult who now has CI's, get your deaf baby to the CI clinic as fast as you can. Life is SOOOOOO much better with sound, speech understanding and music. I've been on both sides, hearing is FAR better than not!!

    CI Surgery approved today

That is awesome!!!!!! One drawback to the Ci's is all of the equipment, not to mention cell phones, Ipads, etc. I travel with a power strip everywhere I go these days but that would be handy to hold my extra charger, dry store, cords, etc.!!! I like how the plugs are set up so the cords with...

    A Parent's joy versus animal's torment.

They drill a small hole through the skull to access the cochlea for the actual electrode to be inserted. Some surgeons shave part of the cranium to seat the implant, but not all do. It's still a pretty minimally invasive surgery all and all.

    Cochlear Implantation Surgery 7/28/15

You can send back the batteries and they will replace them, even opened, since it was a mistake. Personally, I don't like the big batteries and use the smallest ones. They give me a day of use and they are much more comfortable. The Compilot is a great way to do rehab, especially if you...

    CI Surgery approved today

In the US the base is less than 50% speech scores and to medically qualify. There are other factors but that is a good starting point. As for the job, if hearing is a main function of your job and you can't do the job with reasonable accommodation (amplified telephone usually), they can let...

    CI Surgery approved today

I had surgical glue and my incision was nice and neat and now you really can't even see it unless you are really looking for it. With a 2 hour car ride home I would probably opt to stay in a hotel overnight and drive home the next day. My 30 minute ride home was bad enough. I don't do well...

    Naida CIQ70

There have been a few things discovered with that, first being magnet strength not being enough so movement knocks your headpiece off enough to disconnect the power. Also, there was a flaw in the battery connection on the Naida that has been addressed. If the port where your battery is open...
