    Ci's and Cell Phones

I just updated my blog with the information I was able to collect regarding finding a cell phone that is compatible with a CI. I also included some pictures showing how I use an earbud headset with my processor. Hope it might be of use to some of you! Confessions of a Cochlear Implantee

what they don't tell you about CIs

My audie said that walking thru the metal detector while wearing the CI posed no problems to the map (and hasn't - I've been through many metal detectors since being implanted) HOWEVER, He DID tell me that if I was to put my CI through an airport scanner (the kind they make you put your...

what they don't tell you about CIs

So? What little I had gave me NO benefit whatsoever....so why preserve something that isn't even helping you in the first place. From my experience, the same can be said for most other CI implantees I've spoken with. Why is residual hearing such an important argument against CI's? When you...

    CI Moments

You know what you could do? Stop by your local fire department office and tell them about your CI..and that you've never heard a fire alarm, and would like them to give you an example of the type of sound it makes, so in the event you ever HEAR one, you know what it is! I bet they'll be more...

    CI wait list

I'm so thrilled for you, Kim!!! I'm in BC as well, and when I originally went to St Paul's for my CI evaluation, I was told there was a 2-3 year waitlist. I was amazed when a month after my evaluation, they called me back to see if I would be willing to be implanted 2 weeks later and participate...

what they don't tell you about CIs

I've walked through airport and bus metal detectors while wearing my CI with no problem at all. I've also played with balloons - but not right after surgery (as you aren't supposed to "blow" anything up - it puts pressure on your sinuses) and have have no problems whatsoever. Can't play...

    Motivated by CI

I went back to college after getting my CI, to see if I could manage w/o an interpreter, and surprisingly enough I not only managed, I got fantastic marks and LOVED it. I always loved school, but hated the struggle I had to go through to get the information, never getting 100% of what was being...

    Helping the Deaf Hear Music

Interesting! I'm going to be participating in a music study with my audie later this year, and I already participated in one for Cochlear last Spring.

    CI Moments

Interesting news on the new programs R2! I'll have to ask my audie. He just emailed me and asked me if I wanted to participate in a music appreciation study he is doing with his CI recipients!!

    CI Moments

I'm trying to think of some music that you can listen to and also pull the lyrics up on your computer that might be easier to understand. Have you ever used Youtube? You can listen to a lot of songs that way, and in another window google up the lyrics so you can listen along (and teach yourself...

    CI Moments

There's a discount clearance place near me that always has advertisements on the PA system. The first time I was able to understand them it was such a novelty I just stood in the aisle for about 10 minutes listening!!! My mom thought I was nuts! LOL

Why - Why the Medical Society constantly pressure on the Parents?

That was fun! I got 24/24 and I averaged 3.54sec "new fastest time" - not bad considering I've not used sign on a regular basis for more than 10 years! I guess one doesn't "lose it" as fast as I had thought, I didn't expect to do so well.
