I'm curious about all CI user.

This is not addressing any of his questions - please stick to the topic on hand. I already knew how to speak (was hearing until I was 9) but my friends/family say that I lost my 'deaf accent' after getting my CI, and my pronunciation improved greatly!

    Mappings

Since I was part of the clinical trials for Freedom, I had mappings every 2-3 weeks until the trial was over (several months) then after that once a year.

Are you shy to wear a HA/CI or don't care?

My hair is very short, and my CI is always visible. Its not that I'm flaunting it, its just the way it is. I love my CI, so I don't mind if people ask me what it is. On more than one occasion its lead to some wonderful conversations!

    Can You Trust Audiologists?

Just as there are incompetent doctors, there are incompetent audiologists. Fortunately I've only had the misfortune to run into one, and that was more than 20 years ago, when I was looking for a new HA and she told my parents that even though I had a profound hearing loss, a tiny in-the-ear HA...

An Hearing Person Comes Up To You And Say "What's that?" OR "Is that a hearing aid?"

I've had a deaf girl behind me at Starbucks ask me if it was a BAHA, I explained it was a CI. I've had a few hearing people who know other friends/family members who have CI and they comment on that, but mostly nobody really says anything.

FDA sues Advanced Bionics Cochlear Implant maker for 2.2 million in fines for manufac

I had minimal side effects after surgery - the main one was loss of sense of taste on my right side of my tongue, that came back after a few months. I didn't experience vertigo or anything like that, and had very little pain after the surgery.

    Proccessor falling

I never "suffered" from tinnitus in the sense it bothered me, but there was always a "humming" in the background, which occasionally would rise to a screech that would make my eyes water (thankfully they were few and far between!) I found after getting my right ear implanted, the tinnitus in...

    Proccessor falling

I changed the earhooks on my Freedom to the smallest size and that stopped it from falling off. Also - when I'm active, or doing something where I sweat a lot, I use Cloggy's method and put my CI on my shoulder in a little pouch I sewed and use a longer coil.

    CI Moments

I just noticed - I guess they figure the thread has "lived" long enough....I hope we can get enough posts to keep it on the front page at least, so others can find it.

I think a new map too - one of the electrodes could be overstimulating something. Talk to your Dr and your Audie.

People with CI in stores, etc.

I have short brown hair but wear a beige bte & coil as they match my skin tone. I don't care if anybody sees my CI - its not something I feel I need to hide.

Cochlear Implant is death sentence to your health!

I had meningitis when I was 9 - that's how I went deaf. I also got the immunization required beforehand when I got my CI. As long as you are immunized, you should be fine.

Help this teacher! CI advice needed

Wow I've never heard of anything like this - though its known that static can wipe a map. How old is she? Is it possible she could take the processor off when she plays rough&tumble, and then put it on afterwards? Maybe her Mom could wash her clothes with an extra dose of fabric softener to...

    Question about Recovery

The static she's talking about is in regards to wearing a processor, which can be wiped by a static charge - but then its just a case of having the map reinstalled (which can be a pain, but avoided if you don't wear the processor). Personally I've been on rides with my CI processor on (ferris...
