I just tried to post an ad for SF Bay Area and almost got all the way through. I backed out because I don't have anything to sell. There was no charge as of to the point where I was, to verify the posting. What made you think that they charge you to post in California?

I'd like to lose a bit but as long as I'm healthy (and my blood tests and such say so) then I can do with or without losing. I'm in the range for my body size/weight ratio but near the top.
