Does Being Deaf Affect Your Health Insurance Costs?

Registered disability (might be the wrong term, but it's what comes to mind), is if you applied for social security for disability and were approved. Receiving social security disability benefits seems to concurrently automatically qualify the recipient for Medicare options.

Deaf man trying to cross street hit by car

Sad. I'm a look 3x before crossing type of person because people suck at driving.

When do you put on your aid(s)/implant(s)?

True. It's certainly just one factor. I just found out from research this morning I can't go skydiving anymore after getting the CI. Way sad about it- so gonna try and do it one last time before the official implantation. Also says we can't scuba dive after it either (even though I never planned...

    Movie theater prices.

I wasn't acknowledging that you were a torrent downloader, just saying that's how I got my copies of movies before they hit the shelves. I know many people find websites to access movies ahead of time instead. :-)

    Between the following 3 cochlears...

Why'd you chose the Nucleus 5? Cause it seems more trustworthy from being around for 3-4 decades? I know some of the cochlears seem specifically aimed at improving speech, so the decibel range is limited to 45 decibels, compared to the almost 80 db with the AB... would that be a big difference...

Does Being Deaf Affect Your Health Insurance Costs?

Just a note... don't most people with a registered disability get approved for Medicare? I've had it since I was maybe 19 (after I got off my moms), and Medicare pays most of my hearing bills, although there seems to be a set limit on it (like, no more than 2k a year- i think it's less than that...

    Movie theater prices.

I believe it averages $9.25 out here in AZ. Unless you go to a theater that isn't a chain, they tend to have military discounts or deals, getting us in for about $6.50. But these theaters never have captioned movies, so I avoid 'em often. My question: why can't they make all movies open...

    What's your dream musical instrument?

Certainly a piano, bongo's, viola and violin. 3 things I absolutely do not know to play. Except, the bongo's, I'm sure I could learn pretty quick if I could find some authentic ones.

    More hellos from Arizona

Hello. My hearing loss is also unknown and started between birth and 5 years old. I know you believe it's somewhat useless to find out why, and I agree, but at the same time, I'm always curious of what caused it. Especially if it was a genetic and autoimmune disease, its something I'd want to...

    New HA's =)

Lucky. My insurance would rather approve me to get a CI than new hearing aids... :-/

When do you put on your aid(s)/implant(s)?

No, my audiologist showed to me how much my hearing would improve back up to the 30-40 decibel region if I got the cochlear. I use to be able to hear, it gradually got worse over the past 20 years. In the end, the cochlear is going to give me more than anything else will, bottom line. Hearing...

Profoundly Deaf and tinnitus both sides

Agree with you. I'd rather not wear hearing aids and lip read often becuase the loud sounds are excruciating (with hearing aids). I, too, one ear is profound the other severe, had tinnitus for as long as I can remember. Sometimes it's annoying and sometimes light. Most of the times it strikes...
