Anybody else find HAs are sometimes bad for hearing?

Recruitment only applies to normal hearing. Recruitment is an effect on the hair cells in the cochlea, it is not possible to have it with a CI. If you are having effects similar to recruitment with a CI, your stim levels are too high.

    Well here is a twist

I understand. It took me coming to terms with exactly how little I could hear before I even wanted to consider a CI, and I have had hearing problems for a very long time. I was always mentally resistant to putting myself in the actually deaf category because I can still hear things, I just...

    Well here is a twist

My HA audi never suggested an implant to me. You do have enough loss to qualify for one, I have the same hearing loss you do (severe to profound in one ear, no response in the other) and I am extremely glad I decided to persue an implant, as it has really improved the quality of my life.

How To Communicate in Noisy Place

Noise cancelling technology works and has worked for ages. One of the reasons people have a lot of problem hearing in noisy situations with digital aids is that they go into directional mode at the drop of a hat. That's okay if you're having a 1 on 1 conversation, but it's terrible for group...

    Change.org petition for CI coverage

The issue has nothing to do with this individual baby. CIs should be covered. This baby is definitely fragile and should wait until there are no pending health issues before anyone even considers implantation. No surgeon is going to operate on an infant with health problems, anyway.

    Change.org petition for CI coverage

You do post a lot of comments which are negative to CIs. I'm not attacking you, just stating a fact here. It means people recognize you and go out of their way to argue with you. Anyway, the huge variability is because of a number of factors, some of which recipients have no control over...

    Ouch...

If it's not working for you and people insist it's right, they are wrong and you need to tell them! No HA should be uncomfortable to wear.

    125htz and Audiograms.

Do you want a nice deep bass response in music? That's going to be the most noticeable effect of altering that band. Speech isn't generally in that frequency range, which is why HAs and audiograms haven't traditionally bothered with it. It might help you understand male speakers on certain...

    Cochlear Yes or Cochlear No?

Of course it works via an alternative pathway. CIs send a series of pulses, the signal is nothing like the mechanism for normal hearing. With a CI the basilar membrane does not resonate, which is the method of stimulation for the individual hair cells which fire neural responses in normal...

    Cochlear Yes or Cochlear No?

[citation needed] I don't have any localization problems, provided the sound is in a frequency range I can hear with either ear (150 Hz to 1500 Hz).

    Cochlear Yes or Cochlear No?

I think many people are being overly pedantic here, especially the forum members without CIs who are making blanket statements about them. Just because the sound is delivered as a modulated pulsetrain doesn't mean it can't sound decent and provide the information that normal hearing provides. If...

    Cochlear Yes or Cochlear No?

There are a number of singlesided deaf users on Hearing Journey and they all seem to really like having dual-sided hearing. Also, CIs are capable of restoring far more hearing than just bumping up a profoundly-deaf person to "severe" levels. My audiogram went from No Response to 20dB or less...

    Change.org petition for CI coverage

The Naida CI is a LONG, LONG way from just a slimmer processor. It's a complete rework of the internal software. It's comparable to the jump from analog to digital hearing aids. CI surgery absolutely should be covered. No ifs, ands or buts.

    The doctor's verdict - explantation

As a CI user this is one of my worst fears. I hope things work out for you in the long run. You were likely implanted with the now-recalled implant, I think the ceramic case is especially fragile in that model. They may need to wait to reimplant so your ear gets a chance to heal from the...

Phonak has confirmed....at least in the UK!

They are in a new casing, I have had both an S IX and now have a Q90. The battery door is the same but the switch and button is quite a bit different.

how has cochlear implants controversy died out?

30, really? My audiogram ranges from 10db to 20db in the CI ear. This is actually in the normal hearing range.

Low End Hearing Aids, eg Phonak Naida III UPs.

So you actually like the automatic programs? I hate them. I would rather manually choose than have my hearing aid think it knows what it is best for me. SoundFlow always makes music sound terrible. I am not a fan of the HA just randomly choosing what it decides to play. I usually am on the...

Defective cochlear-ear implant ....In case someone you know has this older model

Her lawyers aren't the only drama queens here. I see a lot on this thread.

Low End Hearing Aids, eg Phonak Naida III UPs.

Well, you're clearly right. Just looking at the features, they have really added a lot of the 'higher end' features to the lower end models. I am upgrading my S IX to a Q90 because my audi got Phonak to extend my return period and they came out with the Q90 4 weeks after I received the S IX...

    Looking into CI

I am enjoying all sorts of new music with mine. It does take a while to get accustomed to the sound of a CI. I wear glasses myself and I don't have any problem with the CI and glasses, even with the large BTE processor (AB Harmony). I also have a Neptune which doesn't need to be located on...
