    Not a candidate for CI?

On the day I got my current HAs I could hear this noise all the way home from the hospital. Every time I stopped walking the noise stopped too, so I kept stopping to see if it happened every time. I was almost home before I realised that the sound was the hood on my coat rustling, up until...

    Earmoulds

I have to have micro-suction on my ears to remove wax, I can't have them syringed due to the mastoidectomy surgery I had when I was a child. If you are concerned about putting drops in your ears maybe you could enquire about having micro-suction instead.

What's the problem with them being visible, is she ashamed of you being Deaf?

I got my new Purple HA Today!

You're certainly not alone. I've been almost run over by bicycles coming up behind me on the pavement too. I got my hair cut short so people could see my HAs, but it doesn't make any difference. Most hearing people assume that HAs correct hearing like glasses do eyesight!

    Best liked make/models?

I'm sure they are actually off, it says this is an option in the little instruction book they gave me when I first got them. Good luck with your appointment!

    Best liked make/models?

Siemens HAs can be programmed so that they switch off by pressing the programme button for several seconds. Then you can switch them off without having to remove the audio shoes. This is how mine were programmed, so that if I have to remove the audio shoes in public they don't whistle like crazy.

    Coselgi Spectacle Aids

Surely if you have HAs built into your glasses and you break them, you won't be able to see or hear!

    Not a candidate for CI?

I've had HAs for almost 40 years and I think they are much, much better now than they were 20 years ago.

    New Hearing Aid

I've never been tested with my HAs in either.

    New Hearing Aid

I don't know why the NHS give alternative names to their HAs. They should just tell us what we are getting. I've never been able to find out for sure which standard Siemens model my Reflex DSPs are equivalent to. I've tried googling it but have found next to no information.

    Marley ate my earmold...

My dogs have never eaten my ear moulds because, unless I'm in bed or in the bath, they are always in my ears. My bedroom and bathroom are both upstairs where the dogs are not allowed.

How much do you wear your hearing aids?

I've used only 675 batteries for the last 40 years, much less complicated, and they last about the same time now as they did in my first HA!

A dad that needs some feedback

Welcome! Sounds like your boy is doing brilliantly with his HAs. Being able to hear his name whispered from 20 feet away is amazing!

    New Phonak Spice

Rose, I agree that most loop systems in shops, railway stations etc. are pretty pathetic. I've tried to use them on occasions and found them very unsatisfactory. It's usually easier just to try and lipread people. They are often set at too low a volume for me to hear them, perhaps another...

    New Phonak Spice

It's interesting that HAs for mild/moderate loss do not have t-coils. I can't imagine having a HA that doesn't have it, I use it all the time for hearing TV, in church etc. Even my first HA in 1971 had a t-coil. I hope that as a knock on effect of this it doesn't mean that loop systems will...

    bilateral hearing loss 1 FM?

You should definitely fight to get him a second one. I used fm at uni and two fm receivers are so much better than just one!

Hair + HA = loud noises?

I've never had any problems with hair noise either and have tried all sorts of hairstyles over the years, but I've worn HAs since I was a kid and am probably used to the sound. When you get new HAs you tend to notice all sorts of sounds that you've not heard before, but after a while you get...

    binaural hearing aids

As a child, forty years ago, I was only issued with one HA, British NHS policy at the time, this aid was provided for my better ear. When I got two HAs, years later, the difference was amazing. Although my hearing loss was bilaterally severe by then, I'm sure I would have been much better off...

Getting my head in a mess with fitting ranges

Have you decided to try going private, having had no success with the NHS? I've no experience of Phonak so can't help answer your questions, but good luck with the trial, hope it goes well for you.

    Walking With Hearing Aids

That's a bit unlikely unless you have some very unpleasant neighbours, it's never happened to me! If it did happen I'm sure you'd be able to get out of the way quickly, before any damage is done to your HAs. If we always expect the worst case scenario we'd end up never doing anything!
