    Phonak Naida

I use Siemens super power aids and also get a lot of interference using the t-coil in the car.

    Nucleus 5 and Water???

Maybe you could simply behave yourself at the swimming pool!

    Ear Moulds

Looks really good, I wonder what the British NHS would say if I tried that? Do you have hard or soft ear moulds? I'm not sure if it would work on soft moulds like mine because they tend to bend, which might cause the paint to flake off.

    Waterproof hearing aids

I thought this thread was a discussion about waterproof hearing aids or at least how best to keep HAs dry whilst around water? I therefore thought it best to mention that the product you suggested would be totally unsuitable to use for the purpose of waterproofing HAs. Just in case someone...

    Waterproof hearing aids

These are merely headbands for keeping ear plugs in, they are not to be used over HAs in water! If these things were used as protection over HAs whilst swimming etc. your HAs would get soaked and therefore completely ruined! See link: http://www.earbandit.com/go2/faqs.cfm#hearingaid

    What is your opinion??

Don't go to costco. Get your hearing properly assessed by a professionally trained audiologist! As for HA brands, I use Siemens and they work fine for me. BTEs are best because they offer many features, e.g. direct audio input, t-coil, directional microphones, bluetooth etc. that other...

    Ear Moulds

I would'd advise painting them with nail polish, you could end up with bits of chipped off nail polish stuck down your ear!

    which is better?

Neither HAs or CI will give your child normal hearing. At best he will still have problems hearing in noisy environments. In Britain he would be unlikely to be considered for a CI without first undergoing a lengthy trial with HAs, especially if his hearing loss is severe rather than profound...

    Waterproof hearing aids

I think waterproof HAs would be useful for everyone. Just the other day I got in the bathtub, started splashing my face and then realised I'd still got my HAs in!

    Waterproof hearing aids

The Siemens Aquaris looks a brilliant product but I read that it is only suitable for mild to moderately severe hearing losses. Those of us who use super power HAs will unfortunately have to wait longer for a waterproof HA which is suitable for our needs. As always, the HA companies serve the...

    Phonak Naida Ultra Power?

Siemens Aquaris looks great on the brochure, but it says it's for mild to moderately severe losses. So it's probably no good for those of us who wear super power aids. I doubt the NHS in Britain would provide them anyway, they are always two or three models behind the latest technology.

    Ear gear?

I have some too, but they are a tight fit on super power HAs.

    Cleaning hearing aids

I use an old nappy/diaper pin to remove wax from my tubing. Did it this morning, works a treat! Also, if you have problems getting the old tubing out when you change it, it helps to soak the moulds in hot water for a few minutes first.

    New aids x Old aids

I have Siemens aids and although the directional microphone programme does cut out most background noise and focuses on the speech of the person immediately in front of you, the omni-directional microphone programme, which I use most of the time, picks up plenty of environmental noise. If you...

    Giving up on hearing aids

Yes, we can get digital programmable aids from the NHS, and mine make an amazing difference to my life. However, I believe Rose has been having problems with hers for quite some time and her audiologists don't seem to listen to her problems. Going private is an option here, but if you have...

Don't wear ultra powered hearing aids too often!!!

My HAs are super power and require 675 batteries. I know they now produce SP aids which take 13 batteries but I suspect you'd need to keep changing batteries all the time, which would be a nuisance, especially with two aids. My batteries tend to go at the most inconvenient times, but at...

Don't wear ultra powered hearing aids too often!!!

I've been successfully using HAs for nearly 40 years, and even if my SP aids do add slightly to my hearing loss, as Rose stated, "its a price worth paying"!

    Oticon Chili

Thought I'd like to try a Chilli, quite like the idea of a small sized SP aid in a cool colour. Though judging by what you guys are saying, think I'll stick with Siemens. They probably don't have any Chilli/Zests at my NHS clinic anyway, they seem obsessed by Siemens!

Did you wear body aid while young?

I was given an early BTE in 1971, I believe that the NHS only made them available to children at the time.

Help me to choose vent's size for my earmolds

Your audiologist should be able to give you advice re the size of vent needed to avoid feedback. I've never been able to use earmoulds with vents, due to severe loss, and after a lifetime of HA use do not notice any occlusion effect. However, I believe that if you have vents which are too large...
