Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

I used an fm system at uni and this is a very accurate description of how it was.

    Questions (cleaning molds and tubing)

I find the tubing comes out of the moulds easier if you put your tubes and moulds under hot water for a couple of minutes before pulling the tubing out. Make sure you detach your HAs first though!

    HAs and glasses

Same here, HAs for forty years, glasses for thirty, you just get used to it! Also use fm receivers sometimes too, which makes HAs even larger, but the glasses have never been a problem. I've got lots of scar tissue behind my left ear too, from mastoidectomy surgery when I was a kid, which...

    Thoughts on Hearing Aids

You don't have to have it set to just one volume, they can set it so it adjusts the volume up and down itself automatically depending on the ambient noise levels.

    Thoughts on Hearing Aids

Mine have automatic volume control, which means that I can not adjust the volume myself. However, I find this much better than the HAs I had years ago when I had to keep adjusting the volume. I think that if the HA volume is set correctly for your hearing loss then an automatic volume...

Help.. Am I getting it wrong?

As others have suggested it might be worth a return visit to your audi for advice. However, it does take a while to get used to the feeling of earmoulds in your ears. I have worn HAs for forty years and even now when I get new moulds done, about once a year, they usually feel strange for a...

    Color hearing aids/molds

Not too old according to me, just too old according to the NHS. Personally I'd love to have blue HAs and ear moulds with blue swirls. Unfortunately here we simply don't have the choice. They provide coloured HAs for kids but not adults. As for being embarrassed about being Deaf, NO WAY! I...

Ever have an Audi that you just didn't like?

Here in the UK you are lucky to see the same audi twice. Each time I go I see someone different, the last one I saw wasn't very helpful, but maybe the next one will be better!

    Tubes

Just make sure your moulds can accommodate thick walled tubing before buying any. If your moulds are for thin tubing you'll probably need to get new ones with a bigger hole. I find that I need to get new moulds about every twelve months anyway, because by then even the thick walled tubing...

    Color hearing aids/molds

Just boring old beige with clear ear moulds for me I'm afraid, courtesy of British NHS! I grew up in the days before even kids were allowed coloured HAs or moulds and now I'm too old apparently.

    Tubes

The thicker the tubing the less likely you are to get feedback, if that's any help.

    ear mold shapes

Soft moulds can be used for any type of hearing loss including profound. I have full shell soft moulds for my super power HAs. I haven't used hard moulds since childhood. I've never had any problems with soreness etc. with soft ear moulds.

Any recommendations of which digital aids best resemble analogue?

Digital aids can be programmed to sound like analogue, just keep going back and tell them how you want them to sound. I used analogues from 1971 to 2008, at first digitals sounded quieter but after several visits to the audi and me adjusting to the new sound quality I wouldn't change back.

Hi I'm new! Anyone with SSD and a BAHA?

Angelina, Good luck with the BAHA, I have no knowledge of BAHA but I can understand your problems with SSD. I was born with bilateral hearing loss but because of the policy of the British NHS, forty years ago, I was only provided with one HA as a child, and that was for my better ear...

My new HAs | Oticon Spirit Zest C SP (Chili?)

This sounds just like the speech-in-noise (directional microphone) programme on my HAs. Do you also have a programme for omni directional sound which enables you to hear sound from all around you? I find that the directional microphone programme is good for focusing on speech in a noisy...

My new HAs | Oticon Spirit Zest C SP (Chili?)

They are not exactly free, we have to pay National Insurance payments to cover the cost of healthcare and also have high levels of taxes! Even so, these HAs sound really great, I wish they were available in my area. Here in Birmingham the NHS only supplies Siemens so I'm still using Reflex...

I use the Nokia LPS5 bluetooth neckloop with my mobile phone: Nokia LPS5 Bluetooth mobile phone inductive neck loop - connevans.co.uk It connects with your t-coils and works well with the phone and can also apparently work with a bluetooth ipod, but not in stereo. I'd love to try a...

    CI--Deaf or Hearing?

I think you need to be perfectly honest with this lady. Lots of people have expectations of HAs and CIs which are too optimistic, it's better to let them know how things really are.
