    Adjustment to late onset deafness

She is 48. Hearing screenings were required in most states 38 years ago.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Sad about this. Any school psychologist who does not look at hearing screening results required in the schools is incompetent, at the least.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I wonder what her final transgression was. I come and go, mostly because I have other issues in my life. When I encounter an issue related to my hearing loss, I return.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I took a sign course quite a while ago. I could get the gist receptively, but I will never be good at expressive. I have been googling and hearing loss and CP overlap by quite a bit. As for progressive, I don't know. I'm going to ask at a CP site.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

My hearing loss is progressive, and I can no longer understand speech unaided unless the speaker takes special measures. I also have always have had mild neurological problems and was afraid of neurofibromaotisis type two. Just had an MRI, and there is no evidence of neuromas on my auditory...

    Cosmetologist for the deaf

If you advance far enough to get terp certification, you can follow both careers. You can also tell your terp clients that you are also a beautician. They will spread the news. What I would like is for beauticians to get some education on working with HOH clients. I cannot understand speech...

    First hearing aid

Like the others said, turn them down, don't wear them all day. Increase gradually. Take Tylenol. Take them out when in noisy environments.

    First hearing aid

Don't worry, those little differences are within the margin of error. After a while of using them, we become more aware of how quiet things are without them. Even if you have a progressive loss, your HA's can be readjusted to keep up with it, and you learn some lipreading skills. I felt sort...

To the "people"who stare at my child or feel sorry for her..

They may be the same people who treat any language other than spoken and written English as not being true communication. As another poster said, that is their problem. Best to ignore them. If they try to impose their standards, then by all means take action.

    Hereditary

I have a progressive hearing loss, and can no longer understand speech unaided. It is accompanied with peripheral neuropathy. I am 67 years old. My son has some signs of neuropathy, as well as my brother. Evidently these genes are capricious in their manifestation, but so far it is...

    Fidel castro died.

Fidel had been battling cancer for years. It finally got him. I suppose his doctors will be blamed.

    Losing Hope

Rupert, with a wife like that, you are better off without. I have lived through some horrible reverses in my life. I fully agree with Muse, no matter how bad it gets, it can get better. As a Christian, I believe that we can grow and learn from adversity.

    Lipreading Tutorial

AACH! That is cruel!! But I'll do it if you tell me to. :giggle: Just as in real life, would probably have to do that kind of practice with newscasts or talk-shows-- cop-shows wouldn't work.

    Lipreading Tutorial

I'm going to go with the first one, and see how it works. The second one is Brit, probably not a good ideas as I get in deeper. Just watching TV with sound way down and something covering the CC would work, too.

    Lipreading Tutorial

I just googled online lipreading tutorials, and there are some out there. I am wondering which is the best. I have just had my HA's retuned-- further loss. No problem if it includes sign lite. https://www.lipreading.org/ http://www.lipreadingpractice.co.uk/ I just got a new...

    Hearing Aid Problem, Help!!

Most likely, your brain is getting used to hearing well, and no longer has to work hard to process what you hear unaided. No reason to worry. You are becoming aware of how much loss you have, through the contrast of aided/unaided.

If there were a cure for hearing loss would you take it

I would like to go back to the level of hearing loss I had seven years ago. Enough that I could take my HA's out and tone down the world and be within myself. I would not like to go back to fully hearing. Most people can close their eyes and tune out. Can't do that with ears. Telephone...
