Home Health Care refuses to provide interpreter

Thanks, Jillio. I really feel an obligation not to sue for my own financial gain (which I am not), but to make a statement that this behavior is unacceptable. Hopefully these acts make it easier for the next Deaf client to receive proper services (which includes me).

Home Health Care refuses to provide interpreter

A business with 75,000 employees will have a very difficult time justifying discrimination due to financial hardship. Typically that loophole is reserved for business with less than 10 employees and when the cost is a high percentage of gross receipts. Once again, accommodations can take...

How many of you are using energy saving lightbulbs

I do notice that the bulbs are a bit dim when they first come on, but brighten up pretty quickly. I don't know about the motion sensors, though. I still have halogens in mine.

How many of you are using energy saving lightbulbs

The amount of mercury in the cfl bulbs is actually less than the mercury footprint for making and using regular incandescent bulbs. Here's a great information site with more details. http://www.energystar.gov/ia/partners/promotions/change_light/downloads/Fact_Sheet_Mercury.pdf...

Yes, I've seen dimmers, timers and 3-ways (I have this one in my lamp now).

Actually soot is carbon residue, not lead.

rearview mirrors for closed captioning in movie theaters

RWC is a problem for people like me who use wheelchairs. I am limited in where I can sit depending on where the accessible spots are in the theatre. Last time I saw a RWC movie, the wheelchair spots were 5 rows from the front, making the RWC text miniscule. Couldn't understand a thing. :(

    closed captioning for itunes?

You can do a "power search" from the iTunes store in "movies"; there is a small box you can check to search for movies with cc only. Not the easiest thing to find, but it does work.

Home Health Care refuses to provide interpreter

This one in is my insurance network. When I called to set up the appointments they were ready to schedule, but when I requested the interpreter, they informed me they wouldn't accept me. They said I could provide my own interpreter, at which point I explained their obligations under ADA.

Home Health Care refuses to provide interpreter

I was hospitalized in December for an acutely ruptured disk and had emergency surgery. I was discharged after 2 weeks, and the doctors ordered a home health aide and home PT and OT. They faxed a referral to the provider in my insurance network. When I called the next day to set up services...

    New Year's Eve

I had a fabulous time. A group of 24, all Deaf, went to the Japanese Steak House for dinner, then to one couples' home for a fairly low-key celebration. So nice to spend time with my "new" Deaf family! Happy New Year to you, Shel, and all ADers!

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

WHEN (not if) I lost my hearing, I could still communicate with others. I am literate. I carry around pen and paper. I can speak. I aggressively studied ASL. I applied to VR for assistance. And had I needed SSI but was mistakenly told did not "qualify" I would have appealed the decision...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

You are contradicting yourself. By not wearing HAs and by not providing honest responses to behavioral audiometry (standard hearing tests), you are PROMOTING people to "milk the system". A trained audiologist should be able to identify those who "cheat" on their hearing tests. But...

    Bizarro World of AD

I love when interpreters show up late and wear wild prints and big dangling jewelry.
