There is a new book about Helen Keller called 'Blind rage'. It shows the real person. You can read an extract from it here: Blind Rage And their an interesting blog about it here: The Gimp Parade: Blind Rage and the legacy of Helen Keller As for me, I neither hate or idolise Helen...

I must have phrased my question really badly to have you misunderstand me in that way. I only meant how much you could see as in wether you needed a long cane, could you read regular print or needed large print etc etc. I don't need to know what it's like to have low vision since I was like...

    letter to family

You never know until it happens. My mom once told me that she didn't want to be a burden on us so would rather we knocked her off if anything happened to her. When something did happen, it was a differant story. My dad told me that she was clinging to her last week of life. Even though she...

    The "DeafBlind" Definition

It's not Helen Keller's fault that she turned out the way she did. She was very bright, and she did achieve a lot in her life, but the media, and influences from people like Graham Bell didn't do her too much good. As to her less savory views, there are other deaf and Deafblind people with...

Man Charged With Leaving 3 Blind, Deaf Adults In Car

They do that a lot. I think that's one of the biggest problems with blind that people focus on that as the main issue instead of on other things. I know some blind and deafblind people and really their blindness is the least of their problems.

    The "DeafBlind" Definition

I don't think it should be as complecated. Just that like in the deaf community they like to have blind with a little sight, I mean any sight at all not using braille or other blind skills. I think a blind or deafblind person could go far with both these things so it's a shame. Being...

That sounds similar to what I see at my best. I can see X16. Only 3 or 4 lines of print fit on the computer screen and I can't see them all at once. I have a braille display too but I haven't figured out all the comands on how to operate a computer without a mouse so that's where the print comes...

Man Charged With Leaving 3 Blind, Deaf Adults In Car

I read in another article that they had the mental age of toddlers. So the deafblindness obviously wasn't the main issue. If anyone left me in a car and it got hot I'd just open one of the car doors to get a bit of air.

Hearagain is completely blind but not completely deafblind since she seems to make good use out of her CI.

    The "DeafBlind" Definition

I'm yet to meet someone who is completely deafblind. I'm profoundly deaf and completely blind in most lighting conditions although I do have a very small amount of useable vision. I can see vague shapes and shadows. I used to be able to see a lot more then that. I used to be able read print...

NY and WH discriminate against blind people?

No, it's what the english people call the french because we are all supposed to like Frogs legs. Only I've been going to visit my grandparents in France and I am yet to be offered Frogs legs. I don't think I ever will now since I'm vegan.

NY and WH discriminate against blind people?

It's best to do that. When they used to call me 'froggie' at school because I was half french and the kids were very open about not liking french people while I was growing up. Anyway I was really upset about it, but mom just told me to laugh it off.

NY and WH discriminate against blind people?

I'm on a few NFB websites. They don't have a 'blind culture' in the way the deaf people do. Actually I find that people from NFB have more open views. Some blind people seem to resent people with some vision. Getting guide dogs. When to me the issue of vision is not important. It's more...

NY and WH discriminate against blind people?

I've never been able to distinguish someone's ethnics by their voice as I've never been able to hear well enough. I do make guesses though sometimes. White people tend to sweat more so if it's a really hot day and the person isn't sweaty I can guess they are black, but it's only a guess...
