    HA vs CI"s

Well, hearing with CI is definitely better than hearing with HA. But don't expect that you will hear fine in noisy situations, understand everything in the cinema or TV etc. As a late deafened person you have quite a big chance to get great results, better than you have now with HAs, but it...

Do you have pain when using CI?

Of course they are trying to solve it, Radka is just asking if anyone else has experienced similar problems and how s/he dealt with it.

    Bone anchored Baha

If I understand it correctly, that's not 100% true in some cases - for example when you have single-sided deafness, it can be treated by BAHA (the sound goes to the good ear on the opposite side via bone conduction) or CI (the sound goes directly to the hearing nerve on the deaf side). But I'm...

Nucelus 5 upgrade to replace N24

I upgraded from SPrint to N5 almost one year ago. But I think my experience is quite different in comparison with other people who upgraded. The biggest difference for me wasn't the sound quality, but the size and weight of the processor. To be honest, I didn't realize any significant change in...

Need help with finding Cochlear Implant Coil

As far as I know, Spectra isn't any longer supported by Cochlear, so I doubt they will have spare parts for those old processors. But you can ask them, maybe they have some reserves.

    Decision is Made

Sorry for a bit off-topic, but I'm still fascinated by the fact that in the U.S. CI surgery is an out-patient surgery while in my country people after CI surgery stay at least 4-7 days in the hospital.. Maybe I can ask our CI surgeon about that (if my second CI will be approved, otherwise I...

    Implants: Bad thing?

no, it doesn't stop me to do anything you just need to be careful about the external parts - but that's same with hearing aids; you should also avoid hits to implant area, but to be honest - hitting the head isn't quite healthy for everyone, not only the implanted ones :D and there are some...

    Decision is Made

Well, I have only one processor, so I don't need to guess which one goes on what ear, but .. the cord between processor and transmitter is (after few months of usage) a bit "deformed" .. so if I would try to put it on my second ear (if I had CI there), I won't be able to to twist it so that it...

Is your hearing with your CI good enough to speak on the phone?

I know, I have an adapter for my phone, but it doesn't work properly and I'd rather buy a new phone (this one is 4 years old) than a new adapter :)

Is your hearing with your CI good enough to speak on the phone?

That sounds interesting.. so personal audio cable can be used for phone calls too? I'll try it when I buy a new phone (the actual one doesn't have 3,5 jack so I can't use the cable). I don't like t-coil too, because the buzzing there is annoying and disturbing, so I prefer "normal" calling -...

signing deaf of Deaf teen gets CIs despite family opposition

Grayma, CI surgery is NOT a brain surgery. yeah, you always need to practice and get used to CI hearing. And honestly - you're usually learnign your whole life :) Even after almost 13 years of using CI I still have moments when I learn something new. I can't tell it from my own experience, but...

    HA or CI Phone

Yes, I do. But I don't feel very comfortable, because I need to hear myself to know if my loudness is okay :) It doesn't matter when I'm at home but when I'm somewhere out, I need to adjust my voice to the environment.. anyways, this is still a very minor problem. Buzzing is worse. And I feel...

    How can I get CI?

yeah and that's exactly the reason why we shouldn't "change" it with other CI users, because if someone's processor is too loud, it can even hurt you (at least that is what we were told)

    Does CI affect some nerves?

Interesting, I don't remember any problems with taste. But I remember my leg was "tingling" (found that word in a dictionary, no idea if you can understand it correctly :D) for one or two days :)

    HA or CI Phone

I tried phone calls recently for the first time :D Although I'm using CI for more than 12 years, I didn't want to try it and was happy with text messages. But I finally pushed myself to try it, so I called to mom and a friend. Well.. it was a bit hard, but we could conversate. So maybe I need...

    Deaf Parents of Deaf kids

True - life in silence is easier than life in blurry world :D If I turn my CI off, I can still do plenty of things. If I take my glasses off, it is worse .. for example I would be still able to read a book, but .. 5 cm from my eyes ^^

    CI Failure? Support please!

Nucleus Freedom is N5's predecessor .. implanted since 2004-5 or something like that.. N5 was recalled about six months ago, so they "returned" to previous implant generation as it is reliable :) And regarding recalls - all companies have recalls sometimes. AB had recently one too.

    Deaf Parents of Deaf kids

Exactly :) But well .. some people are addicted to sound, so they don't like silence when batteries die. I like to hear when communicating with other people. And I like silence when I'm alone. The fact is, not everyone feels it in the same way and I think we shouldn't blame them for it...

Cochlear Implant [Advices, Discussions or whatever]

stream2525, you are a bit wrong. CI needs functional auditory nerve, because the electrodes are stimulating auditory nerve fibres. It is the inner ear (hair cells) what doesn't work, so it is "bypassed" with CI. If the auditory nerve is damaged, CI can't work. People can get ABI (Auditory...
