A joke a day keeps the doctor away

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He's not breathing and his eyes are glazed, so his friend calls 911. "My friend is dead! What should I do?" The operator replies, "Calm down, sir. I can help. First make sure that he's dead." There's a silence, then a loud bang. Back...

    What would you say....

I completely agree and I would go so far as to say I may have been the only reason that person continued smoking the green stuff. But 17 year old me didn't think that way.

    What would you say....

So . . . I am probably going to catch some crap for this, but I have actually done that for someone. I can't honestly say I regret it, but they do. They were fired a few months later for failing another test. If they hadn't used my urine to get that job, they wouldn't be having so much trouble...

    New to HoH life

My intro from a while back. ________________________________________________________ So I know everybody has got to get sick of me posting this, but it never gets any less true. Living with hearing loss isn't a problem. learning HOW to live with hearing loss is the problem. I still have...

    Meniere's Disease

Yah, Meniere's can be pretty crappy. I wouldn't get super scared yet. In many cases the symptoms just go away after a while. I had it when I was a little kid than it went away until about four years ago. Now I am deaf because of it but the problem with Meniere's isn't the hearing loss. It is the...

    Deaf Heart

I know enough about this topic to know that I don't know enough about this topic. If that makes any sense. I'm interested to hear what other people have to say, though.

    New to app

I hope you haven't met anyone dead on campus. Might be kind of traumatic.

    Tricky question maybe HARSH question

Fair enough. My intention wasn't to stomp on someone's point of view. Only to share my own. I have a bad habit of jumping in on topics, and in this forum, where many of the threads involve several cultural perspectives, I can see myself possibly chatting out the wrong end a time or two.

    Tricky question maybe HARSH question

I'm not saying that some hearing people don't oppress the deaf. I'm not even saying that after a hearing person loses their hearing they won't then be oppressed by hearing individuals. But I don't think hearing people BELIEVE that hearing oppress deaf. Therefore they wouldn't usually fear being...

    Tricky question maybe HARSH question

I would agree with this - at least in my case. I was more concerned with my ability to live without the tools I was taught to live with. I wasn't worried about people treating me like crap, although that was more because I was ignorant to the fact that it would actually happen.

    My Idea

I guess I would have reservations about something like that. If a speech to text app gets a word wrong, the word is still one that sounds the same. I can deal with that - I do it everyday while lipreading. If a speech to ASL app gets a word wrong it would spit out a completely different sign...

    HoH & deaf question

Yah, I was HOH for a few years, slowly loosing my hearing after Meniere's attacks. One night, while suffering through an attack, I decided to call it a night early so I didn't have to deal with it. I woke up the next day with nothing and it never came back. I still have no ASL knowledge...

    Tricky question maybe HARSH question

I am late deafened (as most of you know). I think that I would have rather been born deaf, but I am only saying that based on my own philosophy that my only real problem is not really having the tools to live life independently right now and those around me aren't equipped for the situation...

    Hello!

As a young (or maybe young-ER) person who is late deafened and was very passionate about music, I can pretty much confirm that music really is the FURTHEST thing from your mind when you lose your hearing especially at that age. Of course I had a slightly gradual hearing loss which gives me a...

    Deaf "Pen pal"

With not being able to hear well and having speech therapy for your accent, are you hearing or HOH? (hard of hearing) I also had a bad accent when I was growing up, but over the years I turned it into more of a speech impediment. Made middle school kind of crappy.

    InfernoRaven: Hello There!

Yah, I have had everything from steroids, gentamicin, a Meniette device, inner ear skin grafts, and all kinds of stuff. Nothing even takes the edge off. I haven't had a Labyrinthectomy though. Perhaps because I am bilateral they don't want to do it yet because they would have to do both ears...

    InfernoRaven: Hello There!

I am 23 and I also have Meniere's although I do have full blown drop attacks. I am glad to hear you are doing reasonably well with ASL. I plan to start learning in the fall. :wave:Welcome to alldeaf.
