Fair enough. My intention wasn't to stomp on someone's point of view. Only to share my own. I have a bad habit of jumping in on topics, and in this forum, where many of the threads involve several cultural perspectives, I can see myself possibly chatting out the wrong end a time or two.

I'm not saying that some hearing people don't oppress the deaf. I'm not even saying that after a hearing person loses their hearing they won't then be oppressed by hearing individuals. But I don't think hearing people BELIEVE that hearing oppress deaf. Therefore they wouldn't usually fear being...

I would agree with this - at least in my case. I was more concerned with my ability to live without the tools I was taught to live with. I wasn't worried about people treating me like crap, although that was more because I was ignorant to the fact that it would actually happen.

I guess I would have reservations about something like that. If a speech to text app gets a word wrong, the word is still one that sounds the same. I can deal with that - I do it everyday while lipreading. If a speech to ASL app gets a word wrong it would spit out a completely different sign...

I am late deafened (as most of you know). I think that I would have rather been born deaf, but I am only saying that based on my own philosophy that my only real problem is not really having the tools to live life independently right now and those around me aren't equipped for the situation...

With not being able to hear well and having speech therapy for your accent, are you hearing or HOH? (hard of hearing) I also had a bad accent when I was growing up, but over the years I turned it into more of a speech impediment. Made middle school kind of crappy.

Yah, I have had everything from steroids, gentamicin, a Meniette device, inner ear skin grafts, and all kinds of stuff. Nothing even takes the edge off. I haven't had a Labyrinthectomy though. Perhaps because I am bilateral they don't want to do it yet because they would have to do both ears...
