Though I wish that the hearies during their education had gotten some 2 by 4 to the head treatment about people with disabilities, particularly the invisible ones like hearing loss. When it comes to pc's, I go with custom built desktops if you can afford it. That way, you can pick the best of breed components, and you've got a much wider upgrade path, than with laptops. If I had to pick only a brand name built one, ASUS would be my choice, I've used their motherboards...

Just throwing this in the hat. Some Antivirus software, like trendmicro let you lock your stolen computers data from a website. Doesn't really help with getting your computer back, but prevents the thief from making use of any of your personal info.
