    Facts of the 1500's

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today, of carrying a bouquet when getting married. * * *...

    Life Savers

A college professor was doing a study testing the senses of first graders, using a bowl of lifesavers. He gave all the children the same kind of lifesavers, one at a time, and asked them to identify them by color and flavor. The children began to say: "Red..........cherry,"...

    Brag about your car's miles!

Mate of mine has a 1980 Toyota Land Cruiser trayback with over 1,000,000 kms on it. The vehicle rusted away, so he took the engine out and was planning to stick it in his boat

Are you going to drool on this Tesla car?

Yeah Telsa was around the same time as Edison. I believe the two weren't real good friends.:rifle: Edison was a DC man, Tesla was an AC man (he also invented the AC motor in the 1880's).

Are you going to drool on this Tesla car?

I've heard battery powered cars are really not green energy. Unless the electricity is hydro in its source, the emissions from a fossil fuel powered power station is greater than a fossil fuel powered car. Any one else heard that?

    Oil pressure is level zero.

Well, I wouldn't be concerned with the difference in sensor prices, as the new engine would've cost thousands of bucks. You still made a smart move by checking it out. Same with checking out the engine check light. Some sensor faults, if left can cause engine damage and other sensor damage in...

How to run your car on tap water

Speaking of biodiesel options, Chrysler put out 50 prototype gas turbine cars back in 1963 as R&D and publicity. It idled at about 18,000rpm and maxed at around 45,700rpm, and no, they are not typos. It was an unusual engine in the respect that it burnt anything from JP4 to metho and oils...

Good Luck KRosy. Had meniscal tear done in my R Knee last Oct. Still don't have full movement or pain relief, but it's 90% better. I don't get the terrible pains any more, just the odd ache. Will fully recover within the next year or so(had it done 15 years ago before), but I'm a slow healer...

What kind of music do you listen to ?

Currently Rammstein Led Zepplin, Nirvana, Old Pink Floyd.........all types across the range. Even classical and opera. Rammstein fascinates me and my youngest daughter. Simple words and music, but full of passion and energy. Kids seem intrigued that I enjoy modern rock and stuff.

Is your spouse/partner hearing, hard of hearing or deaf?

My wife is hearing. 1st wife was too. We we parted she wouldn't let me have kids overnight because I may not hear them at night. The way things worked out, didn't have to fight over that, because started living with current wife and that put the brakes on that excuse. She was appalled that the...

Teachers that have made an impression on your life

I had one teacher I'll always remember for grade 8 (Form II for you Kiwis). George MacKinlay. He was ex-army, had a kilt, which he wore on occasions and was brought out of retirement to replace the teacher we had about 3 months into the year. I remember him walking in our clasroom and he...

If your family is hearing do they sign?

My family never signed. I was #2 of 6 kids, only one hoh. Mum always said I have to live in the real world, so that's it. Never learned anything or met anyone else who was deaf/hoh. My wife (hearing) and I learned to finger spell ourselves a few years ago ,but never got very fluent. It was a...

    And another newbie...

You want to go to NZ? Doug there are so many places to see and so much to do. It also depends upon the time of year and the season. NZ can be such a brilliant tourist destination, especially for Americans as the dollar exchange rates are in the USA favour and I guess the costs are quite...

    And another newbie...

thanks guys for your replies Doug, it's mainly to do with admitting I'm different and have limitations. This is what was ingrained into me right from the pre-school days. I was always beaten and punished for not hearing the teachers because if I said I didn't hear them, I was lying! No protest...
