    No more wearing Makeup?

LOL......I really don't think things have changed all that much! My 2 daughters do similar things with their makeup as you did, but there is more available now and so I think only personal thoughts are the only variation now (in a limited way). One daughter has straight hair and is always...

Why owning a home is better than renting

There is another school of thought which says that if the deposit you would put on a home was invested properly along with regular additions of funds whilst you just rented, you would come out ahead - financially. I can't recall the figures offhand, but it made sense at the time.

    Any ex-cult members here?

I had forgotten about that aspect about cults. Yes, any structured belief, political or lifestyle organization is a cult. There are both positive and negative cults. Thanks for the reminder. :cool2: My attention in this thread is particularly focused on negative cults and their effects on...

    Any ex-cult members here?

I thought it would be more difficult for children of sects to break away, as they usually know of no other way, but would find it even harder to face the outside world on their own as most JW families and friends would be encouraged to ostracise the rebel. Indeed, this would apply to any cult...

    Any ex-cult members here?

In my opinion, a cult is an organization that draws you in and proceeds to cut off all contact and interaction with the outside world by controlling the hows and whats of information you receive. This, I guess, would be known as programming. Then you are encouraged to cut off contact with...

    Any ex-cult members here?

That's something like I was looking for - thanks nozobo. How was your "escape" from the cult? Did you have much adjustment to make? If you were raised as a JW, then I guess it involved a whole new life to learn and your support based taken away as well, just to help you along..... What...

    Any ex-cult members here?

OK folks, let's try a different tack... Has anyone here ever belonged to a cult of ANY kind? I would like to hear about your experiences and survival (for lack of better words). I'm talking of Scientology, Moonies, Guru Maharaji, Orange People, Hare Krishna, Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh...

    Anyone here an ex Scientologist?

L Ron was an odd one himself, but I guess his successors are more dangerous than he ever was. And the emerging folks in charge appear to embrace these traits. So maybe the worst is yet to come??

Reminds me of another sign I saw in one mens room years ago: "Please do not throw your butts into the urinal. It makes them soggy and hard to light...." Never did find the guy who was collecting them.

    Dodge Tomahawk Motorcycle

I assume it's not real flash about going around corners or bends, it looks so unwieldy and the video seems to show a limited capability of road smoothness...

Are you spoken to in syllables?

This may sound a little odd, but why don't you try talking back to them in the same manner? They might see how ridiculous it is by example. If they get a little cranky about the way you're talking to them, just say, "I feel the same way and thought you would like to see what it is like...

    quitting smoking? i need u!

I quit in '93. Was smoking about 25 a day. Started on Friday nite, bummed 6 smokes off the mother in law on Saturday, another 2 on Sunday and that was it! All cold turkey. Left it for a week and hit the turps the next weekend. First night was terrible with bloated stomach and cravings and I...

    Anyone here an ex Scientologist?

Sorry Sxy, all is cool. I noticed your comment about being agnostic and believed in creation, so I thought maybe you would like to check out a viewpoint where both are combined...

    Anyone here an ex Scientologist?

Nearly missed your question there Sxy... Strangely enough, I am not an atheiest, I still hold a belief in God. My life was a result of my own choices, so I don't blame God for anything, well....maybe some things, but that's another story. Maybe you would like to check out my wife's Uncle's...

OK guys. I think we've all made our points. Let's just relax and let it go now. I appreciate everyone's input and shows of support - thanks to you all. I am quite happy to share what I can here.
