Has anyone done the Gallaudet tours? They only last an hour so I'm wondering if it is worth the trip?

    Phonak CROS

I have the cross, but not the latest. As I understand it, the latest can do things identical to the aid, where as before, it was just a mike. My cross does help, but I don't wear it in all environments. In fact, I'm not sure if it is even waterproof.

    Best writing implement

I'm all for the writing aspect of it, but it might cause some issues. Since you can talk, it might insult people if you don't. And, since they can talk, it might insult them if they can't. I think a better approach would be to use voice transcription instead of writing. Most phones and...

Trust me, you haven't disturbed the discussion.

    Not Deaf enough??

I see your point. It is really simple. You don't have to be deaf. It's really more of a sign culture than a Deaf culture. If it was called sign culture, you wouldn't have to deal with every beak flapping, audio-gram waving deaf or hearing person who thinks he should be a part of that culture...

    Not Deaf enough??

The requirement for being an American is citizenship. The criteria is needed by those who might want to be accepted.

    Not Deaf enough??

My point was that I did not believe ASL alone was enough for admission to Deaf culture. But, as Swedeafa stated, "CODAs, children of deaf adults, often have no hearing loss, but they can be part of the Deaf culture". If that is true, then the only requirement is ASL. I thought there was more to...

    Not Deaf enough??

Being Deaf isn't a nationality. The cultures you mention don't just depend on language alone. If you want to equate Deaf with Russian ethniciy or Spanish ethniciy, then everyone with hearing loss is Deaf because we all have a common trait which is hearing loss, a physical disposition...

    We. Have. A. Big. Problem.

I guess the flip side, of the flip side, is that Deaf can now get other jobs due to the increased ability of hearing people to use ASL. One would think this would be a good trade off as it diversifies the a Deaf person's ability to gain employment. After all, isn't that the goal of teaching...

Patriots are under investigation for deflating footballs

I think the result of the appeal process will be interesting. Since the only evidence they have is someone's opinion, I'm wondering how they are going to present the evidence. At least with the Major League Baseball steroids report, there were actual witnesses. In this case, there doesn't seem...

    Not Deaf enough??

You know, what's funny to me, I never thought the language part of Deaf Culture was a big impediment. After all, you need to have some binding commonality to be a culture and language is that commonality for that culture. After reading the last few pages of this this thread(very interesting)...

Patriots are under investigation for deflating footballs

And give up playing for the best team in the NFL? I doubt it. He's nearing the end of his career. There is nothing anyone can offer him. The NFL can suspend you, but the team actually owns you. I don't know if there are any rules that can force an NFL team to keep a player, other than what is in...

Patriots are under investigation for deflating footballs

I guessing that would go through arbitration if they have that clause. And, the report did not suggest wrong doing, it's a weak case.

Patriots are under investigation for deflating footballs

The refs over inflated the balls to 16 PSI after the balls were checked, as I understand it. The ball guy noticed it. Did Brady know what was going on? Honestly, you're playing a major game, I'm sure if the ball didn't feel to his liking he would have it corrected by taking another ball. An...

Patriots are under investigation for deflating footballs

I do wonder why all the baseball players who used steroids have not been banned. However, what bothers me more is that they took away records of people who didn't use steroids. If it is proven Brady cheated, he should be punished for it. As it stands now, the best they can say it that it is...

Patriots are under investigation for deflating footballs

The report actually talks about over inflated balls which the refs did also did not detect. "Jastremski: I checked some of the balls this morn... The refs ****ed us...a few of then were at almost 16" From the Boston Globe...

    Not Deaf enough??

Unless I've missed it, the topic isn't about being invited to events. It's about membership. It's not about a place to meet; it's about whether you belong. This isn't the first thread about it. And, at the time of the thread, there was a lot going on at Gally. Because of those events, the idea...
