HOw to wear the BTE Processor and Controller

Erin's CI activated last Friday and we are still struggling with how to wear the various pieces. First, it became quite clear that there is no way she can wear the processor/microphones on her ear. It is way too large. So, we pinned it to her shoulder. Then, the body worn controller proved...

    Experiences with my daughter.

Mous, when I read the blog earlier today, I thought Cloggy took Lotte into the bathroom. Now this makes more sense! :giggle: I thought maybe it was a girls and boys bathroom. What movie did you see?

I LOVE the Blogs! A friend of mine steered me to Blogger and I couldn't get over how easy it was to get it going. It has been a great way to keep family and friends informed without having to make a ton of phone calls. Especially the day of the surgery. We were able to just call the...

CI, Static Electricity and Winter Coats

We went coat shopping today and tried to find a coat without a synthetic lining. No luck. OK, Parents who have BTDT.... ...what is the real scoop with winter coats and toddlers with CIs? Do we really have to go cotton flannel lining, or can we get a nice, warm fleece?

Isaacsmom, I just found this thread. He handed you his bandage and signed Thank You. OMG! Tears came to my eyes when I read that. What a doll! Toes ripped hers off during a nap on day two. I went in to get her and found her crib full of gauze.

    Bodyworn vs. BTE

I like the pouch idea, too. My MIL is a fabulous seamstress and I know she would love to create something for Toes to help with her CI. The GParents feel so left out at times.

    Bodyworn vs. BTE

Hi, Isaacsmom! We also ordered both a BTE and a Body Worn. Toes is a peanut and I don't think the BTE is going to be able to sit on her ear for quite awhile. But as soon as that BTE fits on the ear, we are making the switch. Our audiologist suggested one of each. That is great...

*** The Evolving Debate over Cochlear Implants

I am listening now. As is my mother. I love NPR. :-) But, how can you capsule such a complex issue into a one hour radio program?

So beautiful, Fragmenter! I know the deer in the headlights look. I see it every morning. ;-P

    Son's CI surgery

I just have to say... I am so thrilled to have found this site! So many points of view and (so far) it seems that there is mutual respect from all sides. I wish I found this place a year ago.

    Son's CI surgery

Can't we just all get along? (tee, hee!) Listen.... I have to say a few things. It seems there are a lot of conflicting opinions and feelings on what a hearing parent of a deaf child should and should not do. My husband and I have a lot to learn. And we know our opinions will...

    Son's CI surgery

I do want to comment on this... My husband and I have been in contact with tons of hearing parents of children with and without CIs. And there is only one family we have met that did not go through a very difficult decision making process before deciding on a CI. And that family annoys...

    Son's CI surgery

Thank you everyone for all of the great advice! It is very difficult to sort it all out. I am trying to stay fairly neutral at this point. So, don't mind me if I sit back and take it all in for awhile. And, I apologize to Fragmenter for kind of taking over this thread. :)

    Son's CI surgery

LOL! I have read some of the exchanges between you and Fragmenter and I couldn't figure why he was so hard on you, making cracks about your age and such! Now I understand! I had no idea you were mother and son! :giggle: It all makes sense now.

    Son's CI surgery

Good advice. We are doing some sign with her and plan to continue to. I am not sure how far we will go with it. But there is a part of me that just doesn't like the idea that she will have to rely on electronics to communicate. I want her to be able to communicate without the CI if...
