    My 1 yr old daughter....

Hi! I posted on your thread on the HA/CI forum, but wanted to pop in here, too. There is a lot of great info out there and a lot of not so great info. So, read a lot, try to sift through it all and come to your own conclusions. Like a PP said... a CI is not a cure. It is a tool...

    How in the world??

Hi Nirenameit! My 16 month daughter was implanted at 14 months... activated at 15 months. She wore HAs from 10 months to her implant date. In the beginning she was great about wearing them, but in time she started pulling them out nonstop. For us, we believe it was because she stopped...

    MomtoIsandEm -- Please Read

Lilly'sDad, that is great information. I am going to start watching Erin closely to look for her signals. I have a feeling she might benefit from a wind down period, as well.

    MomtoIsandEm -- Please Read

I think Erin has a similar opinion. She loves to hear us read her bedtime story, and sing a short song... but once we are done, she pulls the coil off, points to the reading lamp to be turned off, points to her crib, signs sleep and that is THAT.

    Don't you wish..

I feel very fortunate! We have a 45 minute drive from home... but it is only 15 minutes from my office. So I just meet my husband and Erin at the audi's office. This explains why they looked at me funny when I asked if there was an option closer to home.

    CI's for under 1 ???

I also agree with this. I don't think the people in Erin's support group in the deaf field do enough to make this clear to us. It is something we have to continually remind ourselves of. There will always be gaps in Erin's hearing with her CI. I think the experts we are working with are...

    Experiences with my daughter.

I have been wanting one of these very much! I have the non-digital version and haven't pulled it out of the closet in years. I've said this before, but this is very much how we feel about Toes. These are very special creatures, our girls.

    Experiences with my daughter.

Sorry for hijacking your thread……… I am just so amazed at how Erin’s experiences are mirroring Lotte’s. I can't help but comment. I look at your little girl and see so much joy in her! She is a special girl.

    Experiences with my daughter.

Oh, my goodness, Cloggy… this brought tears to my eyes. You just described Toes almost to a T. She becomes very upset when anything is out of order, or if there is the slightest change to her schedule. If I leave a cupboard door or drawer open, she closes it. If it is a door that is out...

    CI's for under 1 ???

I used the “wait until she can decide on her own” logic when I started getting pressure to have her ears pierced at 6 months. The argument makes sense in that instance. But, as parents, we would not be doing our duty if we didn’t make the tough decisions we sometimes must make. If we could...

    My activation went well.

How wonderful!!!!!!! I hope it is all downhill from here.

    CI's for under 1 ???

Hi, Believer! I am a believer, too. My 16 month old daughter was implanted at 14 months - activated at 15 months. It has now been only about 20 days since she was activated, but she already is showing a huge difference in her babbling. Every day we see something new. Even her laugh has...

CI, Static Electricity and Winter Coats

Lilly'sDad, I guess I should clarify: When I say "fleece" I am meaning a synthetic fleece. The audiologist told us not to worry about a synthetic fleece jacket. She said our main concern are those plastic slides. ;) And she also suggested we avoid tight knit caps of any kind while she...

    New here!

Hi, Cara! I am glad to see another parent! My daughter is 15 months old. Her deafness is caused by the Connexin 26 genetic marker. My husband and I didn't know we were carriers. She also got little benefit from HAs, so we had her CI surgery on Sept. 25. Right ear only. She was "hooked...

CI, Static Electricity and Winter Coats

Wow! I didn't know this would be a controversial subject, too! :) We are going to throw caution to the wind and put her in a fleece jacket. It is just We have the spare processor and her mapping sessions are close enough together right now that it wouldn't be too difficult to have the...

HOw to wear the BTE Processor and Controller

Thank you, everyone for the suggestions! Cloggy, I am going to make an attempt at sewing pouches this weekend. I have a ton of heavy fabric left from a failed attempt at roman blinds. So there is alot of extra for mistakes in my seamstress ability. I agree with Lilly's Dad... beautiful...
