For Skilling and Lay, no posh prisons

I'm not sure what was done for the children. I DO think that whatever happens, they should be put in a decent home, even if not a rich one, and cared for well if both of their parents are in jail. They were uninvolved, so they should be able to go to college and have a decent chance at life...

For Skilling and Lay, no posh prisons

In the case of the wife that was not innocent that I know of--Lea Fastow, wife of Andy Fastow--I believe the law caught on and handled that. If there are any more cases like that, I would expect them to prosecute as they did with Fastow's wife rather than punishing them...AND...

For Skilling and Lay, no posh prisons

I saw a documentary about the Enron people which really made a point about just how crooked they were. They were so arrogant that they even made videos in which they parodied their own illegal actions and laughed about it--that among other things. So, I'm VERY glad they're getting a longer...

Data on 26 million veterans stolen from home

DHB, that would make a lot of sense. It would be more work, but look at how efficient computers are now. It doesn't make sense to have one number that gives an identity thief access to EVERYTHING about a person. Having separate numbers would be a good idea. The only question I have about...

    Commercials on "commercial-free" XM radio??

For those of you who have or are looking at getting XM radio, it seems that the "commercial free" service may not be so commercial-free after all... http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/apr2006/tc20060413_150389.htm What's more, I've been told that customers who are cancelling...

Data on 26 million veterans stolen from home

Obviously I'm not happy with this one bit! That guy ought to be fired for what he's done, at the very least. And thanks a LOT, pek, for insulting my father, among others who served in the military and who have been government employees. He is a GOOD man, and I met many other VERY good...

Coaches face suspension for wins of 50-plus points

I don't. In college games (and it ought to be in high school, too), these kinds of games are used to allow second- and third-string players the opportunity to get some experience. I'm sorry, but if the other team is that bad, they a) should not be playing against schools of that size and need...

    Sickening news :(

I think that after Vietnam, there would actually be much more reason for them TO draft upper-class people, because the public would be watching the process with a microscope.

Boy, 6, receives award for saving his little brother from prowling cougar

    That's pretty amazing...never underestimate kids!!!

EXACTLY. Unless the draft is reinstituted, then it's an all-volunteer military.

    Can Gays be Christians?

Somebody had to be the first genetic human, though, or at least the first being genetically advanced enough to have our mental/spiritual capacity (which evidence suggests would be close to human, given when the first cultural artifacts show up)--that's the point I'm trying to make.

    Can Gays be Christians?

I DO feel bad about it when I sin, definitely. But with some of my most difficult ones, the progress is something an outside observer might not count as much even if I'm gaining an inch or two of ground. That's why I think we have to be careful about judging.

    Can Gays be Christians?

I don't see any reason not to believe in the Bible just because they were dinosaurs. The Earth is a work in progress. ;) As for Adam and Eve, well, somebody had to be the first fully self-aware human, and would've had to have another to breed with. Even if not everything was literally as...

    Can Gays be Christians?

I think we need to be clear about one thing, and I think you're kind of saying it but it probably needs to be stated outright: it seems that even the most repentent Christian will still sin. At least, I know that from my own experience to be true. I feel awful when I catch myself doing...

    Can Gays be Christians?

As far as I understand, you can. It's not the ideal situation, but if it is genuine (which God would know and we could not judge), then I think it's accepted. I think this may be where the traditional line, "May God have mercy on his/her soul" comes from, although unfortunately it's turned...

    Why?

Welcome! :) I agree with you...a civil debate is one thing, but personal attacks are entirely unacceptable.

    Child slave trade continues :(

I think this is the kind of case where maybe the U.S., Canada, or a European nation ought to consider offering asylum. It cant't be safe to stay in the country after that!

    Sickening news :(

I think every country has its share of trash. The U.S. has trash, Germany has some too, and so does EVERY country in existence. And each also has a decent share of good people. Better to go by the individuals than nationalities. I happen to be good friends with some very nice Germans who...

    Can Gays be Christians?

As a Christian, I would think so. Even if homosexuality is regarded as a sin, which is something I'm not sure about anyway, I cannot possibly exclude a gay person. The reason being, I KNOW that I have sinned, and I can't say that my sin is any "less". I would be equally condemned. So, I...
