Sadly, I think so. It all started, for the most part, in the early '80s, when the political ads went from promises to personal attacks. "Vote for me! I am the lesser of two evils!"

I suspect this will be a vehicle for terror. Grab a few vials of the virus, and spread them through a mall, school, NFL game, etc. We are already shaking in fear, so why not start a large-scale outbreak right here?
