I don't think there's a right answer or a wrong answer. You just do what you're comfortable with, and you know yourself (and your hearing) better than anyone else (well, not including the audi, I guess, lol). You know what works best.

I have a 11yo dog (Australian Shepherd-Border Collie mix) named Jake. Have had him since he was a pup, when I was 11 years old. Man, how time flies! Hard to believe that I may have him for only a few more years, though he looks and acts FANTASTIC for his age. No arthritis, hardly any age shows...
