    CI Evaluation Update

Like Lissa, I do not have any experience with tubes although I've had a history of ear infections since infancy before getting my CIs. None of my ENTs have ever felt the need for me to have tubes; thus my inexperience with them. Here's wishing you and your daughter all the best! :)

Does the cold effect your CI?

I live in Wisconsin where the weather can get pretty cold. I don't notice any problems with my CI in the winter except for my CI batteries dying prematurely. To get around this problem, I wear a hat. Sometimes I also feel a strange sensation in my ears as if they are congested even though I...

    Be careful with psychotropics

I'm going to restrict my comments to a few words since I also find these kinds of threads bothersome. Let's take the opposite point of view. PRozac did not work for you, but it does for me. So who's right? Answer: We both are. If you're experiencing side effects from any medication, speak to...

The CI for children issue (My POV)

Exactly! I'm totally deafblind and have been using tactile sign since 1995. Just thought I'd point that out for others who may be unaware of the availability and use of tactile sign. There are also other communication methods that are used as well. My apologies for going off topic.

    Resistance Is Futile!!

I feel the same way about my blindness. Giving sight back to those who have lost it through head injuries, diabetes and other causes would be wonderful -- especially for the elderly who happen to be the largest growing population of the visually impaired and blind. As for myself, I was born...

    Obama burns!

This is a little off topic, but I did give GWB a chance. Unfortunately, he failed big time. Now it's time for Obama to pick up the pieces of what GWB left behind.

Issues with BTE aids (hair scraping mic)

You may want to ask your audiologist if he or she can enable the compression feature on your aids. This should help reduce the scraping sound you hear. When I received my first pair of aids at age 15, I always kept my hair tied back in a ponytail or braid.

    Obama burns!

Koko, Give Obama a chance. His public ratings may be going down, but they always have the potential to improve. You know the saying "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched..." :)

What Ticks You Off (Most) About Hearies?

I feel the same way. I consider myself blind first (since I was born blind) and deaf second since I had progressive hearing loss. I've seen different variations on how the word deafblind should be written, but IMO, I think it should be expressed as one word since blindness impacts deafness and...

What Ticks You Off (Most) About Hearies?

Alot of my hearing friends say the same thing. If only your ears had an "on/off" button. :cool2:

What Ticks You Off (Most) About Hearies?

No doubt! After I received my first CI, I couldn't believe how LOUD people spoke on their cell phones, but fortunately, now I can either turn off my CIs for complete silence or use my softer map. :)

    How did you learn ASL?

I started learning (tactile) ASL at my local deafblind center after I lost my hearing in 1995. It took me awhile to learn, but I kept at and had some wonderful Deaf and deafblind people in my area who helped me with my lessons. I'll never forget them because if it were not for my knowledge of...

I'm thinking about getting ready to train with my new guide dog. According to the person I spoke to at the school, training should begin sometime this winter. <excited about getting a new dog yet sad about no longer being able to work with Tigger>
