    Does anyone know?

I have used neckloops and basically the loop itself acts as a microphone to talk back - at least on cellphones. On a regular landline telephone, I guess it didnt work for me, so I had to put the receiver next to my ear to talk back. Maybe bluetooth neckloops should work better with a mic built-in.

Blackberry - should I get one or not??

Oh then in that case, stick to AT&T for good. Choose a good reliable phone that you can hear well with. I would say, for me the BB Bold 9700 works better than the Iphone without any neckloop accessories. Its not the best in the market because it is still GSM, but bottom line is that it works...

    Between the following 3 cochlears...

Nope, no significant difference in the way we can listen to music. Probably the way the T-mike is designed may be important to some folks.

    Between the following 3 cochlears...

I really doubt that your med team will advise/push you into whatever brand they recommend - it is unethical, unless they are endorsing a particular brand. The major differences you would know are in the way the internal part is designed, the accessories offered and the features like music...

    Between the following 3 cochlears...

My unbiased opinion - all three brands of CI will deliver more/less the same kind of desired result. There is no one brand that is superior than the other, because if there were, doctors across the country would be recommending the better ones. It all boils down to your personal preferences - if...

Not sure if anyone else has seen this, but this seems to be a really cool prototype of the next iphone with a front-facing camera for iChat.

Re: Deaf Customers Can Now “Read” Voicemail?

Google Voice is pretty cool by the way - it even shows you a transcript while you are listening to your voicemail. Have been trying for a few days and its just great.

Blackberry - should I get one or not??

All depends what your requirements are - if you are a heavy texter, you should get a phone with a good QWERTY keypad. If you text and like to talk as well, then you need to find something that goes well with your hearing device. Everyone has different experiences so if you have a particular...

    WebCapTel Mobile Phones

I am not sure if they even work on Blackberry devices, but I checked and it looks Sprint offers WebCaptel devices on the go, such as the Blackberry Tour 9630. Has anyone checked it out?? One thing I heard was that CDMA network dont allow you to talk and surf at the same time, the way it can...

Great smartphones for hard of hearing people

That was a wonderful post GQ, and definitely a thread that should continue as new technology comes out for the deaf. I believe that there is no one perfect phone for the deaf as individual preferences vary greatly, and cellphones were not specially tailored for the deaf until the FCC ruling and...

Netbooks (ASUS EEE PC 1201N and HP Mini 311-1037NR)

I bought an Asus Netbook in September/OCtober last year, and it has been just amazing. Didn't need an optical drive, and I use it typically for general web surfing, document editing and so on. The longest it has lasted me with moderate usage has been about 4 hours without power cord. Ofcourse if...

    Smartlink + Bluetooth

Hey!! I have used the Smartlink and Bluetooth, and even though I dont make so many calls, it has lasted me as much as 5-7 hours depending on usage. OVer time, it dropped to 4 hours. I try to charge my Smartlink every night. And I use the Smartlink only when I am making or expecting a phone call...

Blackberry Interference - Is it me only ???

I am up for an upgrade since my BB Curve of 2 years died out, and I went to try some new phones. I have a CI, and I want something that I can use to talk with people and make best use of my CI. So I tried the BB Bold 9700 (yes, the new one from AT&T) and it sounded so damn clear on H-T mode and...

    Speech to text portable device?

There is a device that does that - Captel. If you are talking about a cellphone, there is none at the moment I believe, though Webcaptel is catching up very fast on the Iphone. Captels are Speech to Text telephone devices.

why do all marriage failed here in u.s.a.?

Communication & Trust is the key. Both the spouses' ability to mend differences, compromise & be true to each other. Life is full of compromises anyway. Alot of people I met tell me "I fell out of love" !! I dont know how & why this happens, but it is silly. Marrying someone you love is a...

Have any of you felt extremely lonely & lost at some point...?

You are right, I am indeed stressing myself over all this, which is unnecessary. I haven't discussed this with anyone yet; I just wanted to express myself openly here though I sometimes feel I am the only one who feels that way. Thanks for the advice by the way!

Have any of you felt extremely lonely & lost at some point...?

I hate to argue back, but I do disagree with what your doctor said. Because a person has a hearing disability, it doesnt always mean he/she can never interact with people around. But I do know, thats the harsh reality - it is not impossible, but it is hard because of communication difficulties...

Have any of you felt extremely lonely & lost at some point...?

Unfortunately, no. I grew up with spoken English, but down the road my hearing deteriorated, and so did my speech. Now even if I have a CI and hoping my speech would get better, I thought it would be nice to find a way to socialize & connect with deaf folks like me through ASL. I am just in the...
