    CI's for under 1 ???

You will note that there was no mention of any sort of surgery in my posted question, merely the fitting of glasses to "fix" the vision problem. I would have thought that a child needed reasonably good sight to be able to learn lipreading and sign, also to eventually write with paper and pen...

    CI's for under 1 ???

An open question, answers from anyone pease..........if your child is born with less than perfect vision, ie, vision is blurred, child is crossed eyed, whatever other examples you can come up with.........apparently opticians can diagnose these things well before the child can speak and complain...

    CI's for under 1 ???

Whilst I also applaud the decency of IBM in making accomodations for their deaf workers, your post does not really answer the question of how a signing professional person gets on when out of their personal work environment. There must be many times they are faced with meeting non signers, or...

    CI's for under 1 ???

[/B] I must be having a slow day.......after puzzling for several hours over your last comment about ignorance I finally realised you had misread my previous post, the word I chose was Arrogance, not ignorance. Very different meaning methinks.

    CI's for under 1 ???

My most humble apologies on voicing what is obviously a touchy subject. Far be it from me to insult anyone, either intentionally or unintentionally. I shall take myself away before I cause more grief.

    CI's for under 1 ???

[QUOTE=shel90;809912]Excuse me...I know so many deaf people who are signers and dont have oral skills that have traveled around the world just fine. Deaf people, oral or not, are capable of doing anything. To think that deaf signers cant do this or that is typical of the public's view on deaf...

    CI's for under 1 ???

Correct me if I am wrong, but would a deaf signer with a professional degree be limited in any way in their interaction with work colleagues? Would everyone they come in contact with be signers or would they need the assistance of a terp?

    CI's for under 1 ???

    1) hurling insults........cant think of much worse than offering to bash someone who is being held down by someone else. 2) Breaking into a discussion......seems to me thats what this forum is all about, each having their say. 3) your whole above post is a perfect example of the way you lash...

    CI Moments

Um...I may be having a blond moment here rather than a deaf one......can someone translate this post for me, must mean something to someone?????

    CI's for under 1 ???

[/B] Hear....hear..........a world without dependency on others, no terps, no pen and paper, tty or other hinderances. I have a profoundly deaf oral cousin who has travelled the world alone, could he have done that depending on different sign languages in different countries, or with a...

    CI's for under 1 ???

Wrong Jillio....I have read many many of your posts and always marvel at the sheer arrogance of many of them. This one above is a prime example, good role model for your son too

    CI's for under 1 ???

why would it bother you, or jillio for that matter, when you are anti CI????

    CI Moments

This thread is absolutely wonderful........after all the doom and gloom regarding CI on other threads, I havent been implanted, yet, still on waiting list. But this really gives me something to look forward to, especially with the music as the audie told me that they are not programmed for music...

    Cochlear implant mends lives

I dont think it would matter to Lotte whether they understand her or not, at that age she is probably just happy to be rattling on at anyone. And of course the more she talks the better she gets.

    Cochlear implant mends lives

If this clinic is in California, USA, which is basically an English speaking country, then it makes sense to give CI to those who will have support of english speaking family. If they were in Mexico (spanish speaking I assume) then there would be no reason for denying them CI.

Anyone here adopted and found birth family

It is stories like this that turned me off wanting to find my birth family, the fear of what might they be like" especially as my adopted family was wonderful. Open heart surgery at a month old...wow!!!!....a bit like my grandaughter who had bowel op and apendix removed at 5 days old. I am so...

Anyone here adopted and found birth family

Great to read your story, yes it can be awkward at first, people who are not adopted would think you would rush into each other arms but it doesnt work that way and sometimes the connection is never fully made.
