Info on STEM CELLS from scientific source

If such a treatment worked I would be more concerned with safety than cost. I wonder what sort of quality controls they have. Remember China is the country that sold an ingrediant of pet food that resulted in the deaths of over 1000 American pets. Babies in china became sick from chinese...

Info on STEM CELLS from scientific source

I have done some checking on the internet and there is no mention of the four year old boy and his treatment for hearing loss on the Beike website. This makes the data VERY suspect. Moderators, in the future any data posted on this website needs to be verified and links provided prior to...

Info on STEM CELLS from scientific source

Deafdude, Stem Cells are not yet proven to be better than an implant. Yes, the results show an improvement but there will need to be much more data to prove stem cells are better than a CI. The upshot of the debate is that if someone with a severe to profound hearing loss desires to...

Info on STEM CELLS from scientific source

The results real or made up do not prove stem cells are ready for prime time. There needs to be data for speech discrimination and also other research centers would have to show they can get similar results and the results would have to be peer reviewed and published in journals. There are...

yep this is it, nucleus 5 system is out now

I am going to upgrade too! I love the processor covers. The remote will be nice too. I just hope there is a way to wear the remote around my neck or I will lose it. The upgrade will be my birthday and christmas present to myself.

Have great HA but being pressured to get CI… very apprehensive

If you are happy with hearing aids I would stick with them. You can always get an implant later on. It is important that you do what you are comfortable with.

Cochlea America coming out with a new Processor?

I like the look of the new processor. I am glad there will be a remote. I hate having to take the processor off to make adjustments. The pink body cover would be great too. It would match the one on my Blackberry.

    argggghh!

Hi all, Thanks for the advice on the box. I am going to get a box, something bright colored, to put my hearing aid in, when i finally get a replacement. I am also going to put my contact information on the box. I still have two more airport numbers to call but most likely I will have to...

    argggghh!

I was on a plane and my ear started to itch so I took out my hearing aid ($2900 Oticom SUMO DM) and put it in my carry on bag. Well, I get home , empty the bag and NO HEARING AID! I have contacted the airline and so far no luck. I am sick to my stomach about this. :barf: This will...

CBR Center for Regenerative Medicine looking for children under the age of 18 months

This would be amazing if it works but remember it is a clinical trial and it is not known exactly what the results will be. Personally, I am more comfortable with the CI than with stem cells. In the future stem cell MAY provide another option.

    NEW nucleus 5

I like the idea of more durable externals. I have had 3 cracked controllers in 2 years. I also like the fact it is thinner. If a remote is available for the processor, even better.

I Won't Be Going For CI At This Time.

Phi, It is good you took the time to really think about the CI. For me the biggest difference the CI has made for me is in speech discrimination. I was only getting 18 % with my Sumo DM. With the CI I am getting over 80 %. If I had over 70% discrimination with hearing aids there is...

    CI Moments

Fozzy, Congrats on the activation. The weirdest sound for me at first was applause. It was staticky and then followed by what sounded like shattering glass. Now applause sounds normal. Just remember to be patient. When do you have your next appointment?

Transitioning from HA to CI... how do you know when you're ready to make the jump?

Yes, there are risks with CIs but there would also be risks with Stem Cells. What ever process causes haircells to destroyed would have to be controlled or the regrown hair cells would also be destroyed. I would suspect this would mean some pharmaceutical would be needed and who knows what...

Transitioning from HA to CI... how do you know when you're ready to make the jump?

Hi Watermelon, I had normal hearing most of my life and over a period of 8 years my hearing went from normal to severe -Profound. I have a CI in my right ear and still wear a hearing aid in the left. An audiologist suggested a CI evaluation and I spent about 10 months researching CIs...

    Post Surgery - CI questions

It is possible you might need a stronger magnet. If you do try a stronger magnet make sure it is not causing pain and the skin at the magnet site is not getting irritated. Your audi can get you a stronger magnet if you need it. You might want to try trimming hair shorter at the magnet site.

Man loses HA, can't afford $2500 HA but wants $50,000 CI!

I read this article about two years ago and my first reaction was 'Whoa, if a hearing aid works and you are happy with it why bother with a CI" From the article it is obvious the author has a hearing loss in the severe to profound range. (i.e. oddly flucuating voice). The blog is also the...
