    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Personally I avoid group situations like the plague... For the same reasons. I went to a housewarming party 2 weeks ago and ended up leaving because I couldn't follow a single conversation. So I guess to answer your question... I don't deal with group situations.

Feeling Socially Awkward in the Hearing World

My audi fell off her chair when she compared my results from 6 years ago with last week's.

Feeling Socially Awkward in the Hearing World

Once again, your situation and mine are really similar. I had to "come out" to my friends and explain the situation plain and simple. I told them that if they didn't try to adjust "I will deliberately avoid you". My 2 best friends just enrolled into an ASL class that we'll take together in the...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Please people, let's not forget our manners! :) Jiro, your advice is very welcome, but TXgolfer has the right to use it or not. TXgolfer, Jiro was only trying to help, not bug you in any way I think. There there! (See? I'd be perfect as a teacher! Or an ambassador to the UN)

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Call me naive... but I don't think anyone would want to fake being deaf.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

@AliciaM I wouldn't want to have someone's life depend on if my batteries will survive or not (+ I couldn't distinguish a heart murmur from a normal heartbeat so not worth it). @RachelRene I 'hear' you girl! Your story and mine sounds pretty much alike! The ENT's now looking for Meniere's as...

    Hello

Yay! Someone from my hometown! I'm not sure what my plans are after I'm done with school. I personally don't like quebec very much so I might come back unless I find a SO who convinces me to stay!

^ This (Sorry for quoting MYSELF... I just think that if we can get over the fact that it is not meant to be realistic, we can move on!)

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Not in my case... well not so far. He knows it's progressive obviously, and that it is sensorineural. I have 2 deaf cousins on my father's side (which I don't have any way to contact as we never got in touch after my father and grand-father died) so it's probably genetic in some way. Why doesn't...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Just got out of the audi's office today... 70dB average loss in the right, 75dB in the left... didn't expect this kind of drop from my last appointment 6 years ago... (I was at 28 right and 35 left) This is going WAY FASTER than I expected... Still a bit shocked I guess.

Official AllDeaf Switched At Birth Discussion [tv show on abc family]

In many ways, I accepted television to be strictly a form of entertainment and not a portrait of reality (except reality TV, which is not my thing, AT ALL). I find "Switched at Birth" to be a great entertainment knowing that this is definitely not realistic! Doesn't prevent me from...
